These are all widened a smidge -8px- as the simplest way to get the proportions right cropping for the diplomacy box.  Preston, I had to fiddle the color -getting better human Caucasian skin tone doing it- to not get his face half green in the AC palette.

The whole Pandora lot tends to look either intense-evil or rich/smug-evil, maybe both.  Just the men, really, and some for boobs-lady.

-And a slow morning and needing distraction from a frustrating waiting for someone thing means I'll go look for BErt leaders to do same with - they should be considerably easier...

...Turns out I'd already done the original eight as preliminary to a proposal to do them as SMACX factions.  Crops down to the largest leaderheads as .pngs will be up shortly.

-I also found art of four Rising Tide leaders Protok supplied when he got me to make smilies of the lot.  Those will take a little longer, but not long...

I assume I had big art to cut these out of, and really wish I'd cropped tighter on heads/shoulders, at this remove.  -Still, it sets them that much apart/together as a stylistic choice...

I just realized I probably could've dug out the faction images from the Textures directory in Pandora's game files, but they appear to be pretty much the same as the images already on the wiki. Doesn't matter though, because these are absolutely beautiful, a great conversion to the SMAC style!

Yeah, the proportions in the original are different, but your conversion looks great!

Yeah... that's one of the problems with that game, it was really, really unsubtle and tended towards parody in its characterization and writing.

I think your first attempt on Alpheus is fine- the original Togra faction image does have a weird ethereal overexposed effect now that you mention it- but I appreciate the improved coloring on Preston.

I think Yun Xi's colors are a bit drab and could use more reds but given the original I can see how it's difficult to work with. What if you made his upper collar the red the rest of his uniform is? (Or rather, I mean treat it like that red, before you apply your SMAC treatment.)

My own pique, not for a specific mod as of yet. But given how much both of these games owe their existence to SMAC/X, they're good to have for the community, and maybe someone will give them a shot as custom factions one day.

Okay - I really thought the shading on his face came out entirely too harsh before, and this ameliorates that just a tad.


Note that default for leaderheads you try to get as close to eyeline-nose centered as feasible -it's a vid call- which informs some of the cropping choices on these...




ALSO?  I never in my life saw an Asian person who was yellow at all, but he was almost light purple-ish in his skin highlights, and I fiddled it closer to a very light brown -actually yellower- that I think scans better, compare to the uncropped pic above..

Yeah, that's what I had in mind. In the original portrait he has a black collar because the uniform underneath the crop is red- since to get it into SMAC format that part is cropped out, it's good to turn the collar red, so it shows through.
