Albert's Locusts of Chiron
« on: August 30, 2013, 02:56:59 PM »
Here is an introduction:

Locusts of Chiron, planets’ most ferocious avatar, are a winged vector of mindworms. They appear at a distance to simply be great swarms of flying grasshopers. However, as they get closer, you become paralazyed with the psionic mind numbing fear characteristic of mind worms. This fear is used by the swarm, known as a boil, to stun their prey while they attempt to implant their ravenous larva into your brain. This variant is particularly fercious because it flies and can attack any base, land or sea, with ease. Even if a force can manage to hold off the locusts, they are often followed by other mind worms or isles of the deep. It is such that only the most well trained and discplined troops can survive these horrofic attacks.

The first and beginning part:

The day started out like any other for young gaian cadet Albert Dresden. Albert is 21 and has had some limited genetic engineering done by his parents to remove any potential defects in his genome. He has naturally brown hair and eyes with fair skin. His typical day started with him reporting to the sky farms for work as a field and crop worker. If you have never seen sky farms, then they are these huge structures of glass in metal frames that can be up to kilometers long and several hundred meteres above planet’s surface. Albert’s typical job is attend to sections 5a, 5b and 5c of Sky Farm #3. Like any other day, it starts with him taking a transport shuttle up to the structure. He first gets ready for work by putting on his green gaian suit emblazoned with their flowery logo. Then he goes to report to his terraforming unit leader. Afterwards he begins preparing for his task by collecting his equipment and stashing it on a terraforming unit. However, that is where the typical day ended for him. Albert then recieves a comm message that his boss wants him to report to his office. Recently Albert had been tested for his potential apitude as a brood trainer by the Gaian  central office. As soon as Albert entered the office, he realized that this is not a typical meeting. Thomas, Albert’s manager, states that he will be taking a shuttle pod to the gaian central command. Albert asks Thomas why but he says that he can not tell him.

The second part:

Two hours later, Albert found himself on a transport pod to Gaian Central Command without any idea of why. The trip takes about 5 days on this pod from his outlying station to the central command. Albert has always been struck by the beauty of the large gaian towers that are shaped like a tree trunk with extensions that come out the side. As he arrives at the perimeter defense of Gaia’s High Garden, he is taken out of the shuttle pod and sheperded by a group of men towards the central tower of the base. Albert asks where they going but none of them say anything to him. Once he arrives, is then taken through a maze of work spaces. Some of them appear crop testing and growing facilites while others have these tanks full of fluid with some type of organism floating in statsis. They then arrive at a elevator which they enter and start going up into the tower. This particulaer elevator has a glass side so that you can see out over a great distance. Some things he notices is how many hydroponics/botanical gardens there are at this base compared to his home base of Razorbeak Wood. Eventually the elevator stops near the top and he is pushed out of the elevator by the men. Now he is in a smallish office with a single occupant. The woman introduces herself as Lindly Farsto and then proceeds to say that he, Albert Dresden, has been chosen by gaian high command to train and lead a small boil of mindworms. However, she continues by saying that he will be one of their first brood trainers for the a locusts of chiron boil. At this point Albert butts in and says that he never signed up for killing people. She responds by saying that he was chosen based upon his testing score from a very large pool of potential candiates and that as soon as he signed the release form during the aptitude test that he agreed to go where they wanted him if he was chosen. So at that point, she has the men bring through a small door to a labortory in which there was a small tank in which a hatchling locust of chiron boil was resting. She proceeded to say “this boil from now will be a mental part of you when you want it to be”.

The fourth part:

After being introduced to his boil and somewhat getting over the horror of having to control this monstrosity, Lindly takes Albert to the Gaian Military Commander. The commander is middle aged man of about 50 with slightly graying hair, purple eyes, is about 5’ 8” in height and not to heavily set. The general introduces himself as Scott Leonard. He then proceeds to tell Albert that they have been trying to breed locusts ever since they first bred mind worms in captivity but have only recently had any success with it. Scott then goes over to a holo projector and brings up a 3D holo image of the operations at Morgan Mine. He starts talking about how they have been making borehole mines nearby and that they are greatly disturbing local native life. He also says that they have repeatedly asked them to stop their operations and have even tried to negioate a treaty by which they might scale back their operation. Unfortunately they did not listen to their entreaties and now it has come to military action. So Scott explains to Albert that he will be traveling with this specific squadron of probability tachyon infantry as they go invade Morgan Mines.

The fifth part:

The next day Albert finds himself on the trip to Morgan Mines with his group of tachyon probability infantry. The trip is expected to take about six days since they are not following the main road into Morgan Mines and they want to surprise them. Albert was very nervious since this will be the first time he has ever been in combat. As they got near the base, the infantry began moving into attack positions and Albert got ready to move his boil into attack position. Their first objective was to kill the defenders. Then they would capture Morgan Mines and shut down the operation. Albert then recieved the attack signal over his suit’s comm link and began to use the psi link to control and move the boil into position. Albert was dreading what would happen to the defenders when the boil starts attacking. At this point he heard shouting and the sounds of tachyon bolts firing. That is when he released the locusts of chirons to attack the defenders. At that point he heard a warning siren go off over the comm links for the base. According to Albert’s debriefing with the commander, this signal meant that mind worms had been detected near the base and that personnel with flame guns should be ready to strike.
Albert felt from the boil of locusts a need to feed and implant their ravenous larva into this concentration of sentient mental energy. For some reason, this feeling from the boil gave him a sense of relief despite knowing the the revolting concept of people having locusts implanting ravenous larva into their brains that eat their way out of a victim was occuring at that moment due to him. About ten minutes later, he got the signal from the infantry platoon leader that they had secured the base. However, what Albert had not expected, was that a morgan security patrol with flameguns had snuck up on his and the boils position and began flaming everything in sight in order to “contain” the mindworms.

The sixth and final part:

After the platoon of infantry fought off the morgan security patrol, they discovered Albert’s burnt body and the remains of the Locusts of Chiron. What was worst about the scene was that Albert had been cooked almost beyond recognition by the morgan flameguns. After the platoon finished their mission, they brought Albert’s burnt body back to Gaia’s High Garden for proper burial. When Lindly read the report and saw the pictures, she knew that she could experience a death very similiar to that. This disturbing thought caused her to shiver. However, Lindly knew that after she gave her announcement and condolences to the Gaian Associated Press, she would have to start working on the more pressing matter of how they were going to shut down Morgan’s large corporate empire.
