Bulk Matter Transmitter?
« on: January 28, 2013, 03:06:36 AM »
I noticed the the description for this in-game is a big lie.

What does this project really do?

+2 minerals at every base every turn. Seems like a good thing, which it is - until the ecodamage increases.

That, and Nessus Mining ends up coming on-top and cheaper.

Edit: Below posts blow my mind.

So it add +2 minerals every turn. So after 2 turns it added a total of 4 minerals?

Also is that the only affect? I built the BMT and immediately went from 0 ecodamage to 32 ecodamage.

From: http://strategywiki.org/wiki/Sid_Meier's_Alpha_Centauri/Secret_Projects#Bulk_Matter_Transmitter
Bulk Matter Transmitter
Prerequisite: Matter Transmission
Increases every base's production by 50%.
Despite its in-game description, the Bulk Matter Transmitter seems to increase every base's production by 50%. By the time you can build this, ecodamage will be a serious problem. An unexpected 50% jump in your production will cause rampant fungal pops and global warming. If you anticipate its effect, however, the boost in production can be very nice, though of course it comes very late in the game.

Can this be confirmed?

I'm going to have to check, but I could've sworn the in-game description reads +2 minerals per base, not +50% production per base.

It does. The effect however is a lot more powerful.

Hmm...perhaps it's +2 to Industry then?  I'm just guessing since I'm at work right now.

So am i ;). I will have to check that myself. I was 10 turns away from economic victory and i built that project, and I don't want to deal with mind worms .

The BMT produces +50% minerals at each base (before any other mineral multipliers are considered). See, for example, this discussion. The original datalinks incorrectly state that it produces +2 mins/base. GooglyBoogly's datalinks update (and presumably subsequent updates) corrected the entry to show +50% mins/base.

Thank you! Link to GooglyBoogly's updated datalinks is here

When you say "before any other mineral multipliers are considered", you mean that it does not multiply the increase from the others, and the others do not multiply the increase from it?

Yes. In fact, I just ran a test using the scenario editor. A base was producing 8 mins before any facilities or SPs. Adding a Genejack Factory increased the mins to 12. Adding a Robotic Assembly Plant resulted in 16 mins and adding a Nanoreplicator increased the mins to 20. Finally, adding the BMT resulted in 24 mins/turn. So each facility/SP increased the mins by 50% over the base value of 8.

Ok, nice to know.  Actually, in that case, +2 minerals (multiplied by facilities) would have been worth more; with all facilities, it breaks even at 12 base value.
