As I get closer to releasing the first version of my first unofficial SMAX patch, it's time for a related matter:
Because of how I'm doing my patch, the extra information (from new alphax variables) is stored in a place previously reserved for landmarks #58-64.  Because of this, that information is included in the map file (and scenario files), so they will follow the values of alphax at the time the map was created.  If the map was created with an earlier version (i.e. all maps currently existing), it will have values of 0 for everything, resulting in a crash.  Therefore, any maps (e.g. Veterans) will need to be updated in order to work with the new patch (maps from the new patch will work with the pre-patch just fine, but will be limited to 57 landmarks.)  So any maps (or scenarios or saved games) that need updating to work with the new rules can be posted here, and I'll adjust them and return them.  (Anyone who wants to learn to do such updating themselves can just message me; it requires a hex editor but is fairly easy.)  I'm already doing the Map of Planet and Huge Map of Planet.

Could you post a howto guide?
Also i think that , when your finished, you should post a thorough post on the downloads area explaining the patch aim and effects on the game.
Thank you for the hard work, Yitsi!

I will be including a howto guide in the readme for the patch.
The thorough post of the aim and effects on the game will be included when I actually make a mod that changes things substantially using these posts.  Currently it's just a bugfix and some new variables related to the ecodamage formula, so the readme will just contain (in addition to map-editing rules and what to put where) an explanation of what each one currently active does, and maybe some ideas of how to make interesting scenarios using the rules.

The most often used maps I am aware of are the Balanced Vets Map and the Original Vets Map.

The boundary between cold water and warm, the Thermocline, has been important to undersea warfare for hundreds of years of man's history. Now we have found away to harness that power for constructive purposes. Once what cloaked us can now feed us. Once what shielded us from death, now brings us life.
~Captain Ulrik Svensgaard 'The Ripple and the Wave'
