roninscg,

Would you mind if I completely redid my last turn and resubmitted?  I was under the drug addled illusion that airdropped units could not move any further the turn they are airdropped.  As it is, I am still not sure I can delay you long enough to gain tech parity on aircraft, since I got sidetracked all over the place, but I hope I can at least give you a better game and put up a little resistance with the Free Drones.

Yitzi, you are right, if you lose the tech race to MMI, and the factions are close enough to attack before the tech gap can be bridged, there is little the defender can do with the current tech tree.

OK, this goes back one turn and takes drop pods into account.  Your air tech advantage still has the Free Drone on the ropes, but hopefully I can slow the  advance just a little bit.  I have never before had a game with this level of sidetracks, that beelining for MMI I achieved Centauri Empathy first, as well as lots of other unwanted techs like Proj. Psych, which I tried to avoid like the plague (because it opens up other sidetracks) until it was the ONLY option I was given, followed by the other sidetracks I was trying to avoid.

Thanks for the redo!

This is using Yitzi's patch to avoid the Mirror bug.

The thing I had failed to take into account is that airdropped units can capture a city on the turn they are dropped.  I had it in my drug-addled mind that that airdropped units had to wait a turn to capture a city.  Frankly, I think airdropped units being able to capture a city on the turn they are dropped way too powerful, and perhaps one of the main ways that air power is overpowered in general.

Anyway, thanks for the redo of the turn.

I wanted to bring up one last point.  I don't think probe messages get properly conveyed.  Maybe you have not probed me at all, but if you did, I did not get the message about the probe team action.  So let's be sure to post the probe team messages so that we have proper notification of probe team actions.  I think that is part of the standard multiplayer rules, but I just wanted to remind us to make the notification.

I'd love to be able to see what's going on, perhaps one or both of you could post a few screenshots (from a few turns back, however many you feel is enough to avoid giving away useful information to the other) from past saves?

I don't think ANYTHING can be safely posted right now.

I have ZERO visibility to Hive holdings at the moment, so any screenshot would reveal information that I am not entitled to have.

I was pretty sure you had infiltrated the Free Drones, which is why I mentioned the fact that we need to exchange probe team messages.

I presume you were inquiring as to my personal health rather than how my game is holding.  I am hanging in there.  I had two attacks yesterday, with the accompanying pain and vomiting, but I have had no attacks today.  Since Mayo clinic seems to be out, I got an appointment Atilla Etran, who is a top GI doctor in Houston for August 30.  This still seems a ways out, but I had to get my current GI doctor to intervene to get to see him before September 20.  Hopefully, he will have some insight into my situation.

My insurance company still is holding out on approval for capsule endoscopy, which is the test I really need to have run.  I am applying pressure through my doctor and corporate HR department to get insurance approved.

I am on pain killing patches for continual pain control, and Dilaudid pills for extreme pain control (the catch-22 here is unless I take them early enough, the nausea prevents the Dilaudid from being effective, because I throw it up before it gets a change to digest.)

If all else fails, I go to the hospital and have everything administered through IV.  And all else has failed more often than it has worked, sad to say, so I have made a lot of hospital visits in the last two months.  I really need a suppository version of Dilaudid and Zofran.

I don't mean to be such a downer.  Our game is often the highlight of my day!

hm, from what I'm reading you're getting attacked, could roninscg perhaps post screenshots of his attack (outdated by a few turns and cropped to exclude showing the size of any incoming army), with his vision of your bases? Or would this likely be practical in a few turns time?

and health stuff :(, sounds like a nightmare (especially dealing with insurance companies of all things at a time like that, urg). I wish you luck.

And an idea which may or may not be of use and you may already be doing, but from the google image results I'm getting for Dilaudid pills perhaps crushing them up and drinking them fast would get them into your system a bit faster than waiting for them to dissolve in your stomach? That may give you a few minutes faster relief to maybe stop you throwing it up?

Help! Unit transfer is not working! Can someone help debug!?!
« Reply #416 on: August 21, 2013, 11:24:14 PM »
I am having a problem transferring unit control in my game.  I am trying to transfer a unit from Morgan to Free Drones, I have the unit sitting in a Free Drones city, and I type
Code: [Select]
[Ctrl][Shift][U] , which I have done in many prior games, which should transfer control.  But I am getting a message that I must move the unit to a friendly faction territory before transferring control, which indicates to me that the game does not recognize that the Free Drones is a friendly faction with respect to Morgan.

Can someone take a look at this and debug it please?  I will PM the file password to whoever can debug this.  Just let me know to send you the password.

I cannot continue the game without transferring control of some units to Free Drones, so we need to debug this problem.

I am playing with the Yitzi patch.

Here is the save.  The active Morgan unit in Free Drones city is the one that I want to transfer control.  Thanks to anyone who can help!

I'm afraid I can't help with that bug issue, but reading this I noticed you mention probe team messages. I'm positive that the only thing to report in MP is when your probe is discovered and may trigger vendetta (or not, depending on the victim's choice, hence the notification). You don't have to report infiltration as it is a non-aggressive action, and you don't have to report any other successful action. In short, you notify the other player only when you see that dialog window that he either speaks vendetta or lets you go this time. This is due to the fact that the choice for the victim appears during the perp's turn.

I think that all probe team attempted actions (whether successful for not)  except infiltration is brought to the attention of the faction receiving the probe team actions, so that they can determine what diplomatic consequences to impose.

I am not aware of any action except infiltration where you do not need to make the other faction aware (due to the fact that the dialog message about the probe team action occurs in the wrong player's turn, at the probing players turn instead of the player being probed turn.)  Only infiltration can you keep quiet about it.  This is my understanding, anyway.  Do you have a different understanding of MP probing rules?

The dialog message appears only when the action is aggressive (i.e. non-infiltration) and it is unsuccessful. The victim may then choose to speak Vendetta and it comes with no integrity penalty. If the probe action is a success, even if you see the probe coming, you still need to express your feelings by hand, i.e. through the diplo screen and with an integrity hit.

I found the info about it. First of all, the MP rules here don't even mention the probe situation, so technically you're ok to do as you want if you haven't made any arrangement before the start:

http://alphacentauri2.info/index.php?topic=1519.0

But the actual situation and recommendation is described here and this is the rule I follow in my games:

http://www.civ.org.pl/articles.php?action=ViewArticle&lang=Pol&type=SMAC&ArticleID=119

9-4: When engaging in a probe team operation against another human faction, a window appears asking whether the victim wants to "declare vendetta" or "let off with a stern warning." This window is appearing during the wrong player's turn since the victim should decide and not the prober. Etiquette dictates that the prober should choose "declare vendetta" unless prior approval has been received from the victim to choose something else. (MoSe)
