I have had a lot more than usual sidetrack this game.  I normally try to keep the techs between my factions pretty separated, but I have had to do a lot of extra trading to defeat sidetracks, which of course slows down any subsequent research.

I am not sure what is going on.  I think I am following my normal 2-faction tech route, but something is amiss.  Of course, after trading one tech from a sidetrack, that probably throws the whole path off course.

If there is one thing I would change in SMAC if I could, it would be that all of the technologies that a faction could potentially research would be available for selection, instead of a limited selection.  It is very annoying to see your strategy derailed because of 2 or 3 sidetracks before getting offered the tech you actually want.

Same thing with me.

I agree with you,
I do not know how it works, ie
which parameters is decisive for determination in allowing possible technology selection? perhaps it could be changed.

But more interesting is like this. :-)))))))

I had a strange situation.  I had to save the game during the Drones turn to take my daughter to martial arts lessons, and when I loaded the save, it gave a notice of tampering.

So if you get a reload warning, I did not reload.  I just saved and loaded once.

That sunny dome! Those caves of ice! And all who heard should see them there, And all should cry, Beware! Beware! His flashing eyes, his floating hair! Weave a circle round him thrice, And close your eyes with holy dread, For he on honey-dew hath fed, And drunk the milk of Paradise.
~Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Datalinks
