It is OK with me if you replay.

This is one reason I prefer to play without pods.  In the early game, if you get bad pops and your opponent gets good pops, it can put you irretrievably behind.

I saw something similar on another game, where the pod caused global rising water and wiped out much of the map!

Definitely redo!

I already did, I sort of expected you'll agree, guys. ;) Attached are proper files.

I kinda like supply pods as they can be fun (or frustrating), but I agree they randomize the game. They should be either gone or given to everyone in sufficient quantities to balance and flatten the results.

Both the effect we saw with t_ras (the flood) and the EM's global warming are not on the list of possible pop outcomes. Please next time grab the screenshots and/or keep the save, this kind of stuff should be submitted. I'd like to hear an explanation how the game applies features which shouldn't be there and if it means that there is an infinitesimally low chance of, I don't know, cornering the global energy market or inducing solar spots via pods or something like that.  ???

I have tried 3 times to post the turn files, but I keep getting a server error.  I will try again later.

No problems, Earthmicheal. Give me till tomorrow and I will turn in. Right now I am out of town. For some reason, I am only getting one bar on my cell phone tether internet and it is taking me 5 minutes just to pull up this forum page. I would shudder to think if I uploaded a turn. It would probably be loaded with errors.

Be back in Baton Rouge tomorrow.

Will need to replay LMS1. I popped a pod and it took out half my stuff and flooded my capital! As hardcore as I am, I believe it would put me at a very unfair disadvantage to not replay.

Never seen that in SP games....

Tried to screenshot it, but unless you have MSpaint open BEFORE you open SMAX, it comes out like this on some graphics cards, particularly ones that notebooks use:

LMS1 will have a redo. I figured since someone else got screwed by that tidal wave event, no one would have issues.

It's certainly not a problem for me, although I wonder what the hell is wrong with this game. We need to choose if we give the pods a wide berth or allow to replay in the case of flood (and only flood). Personally I'm in favour of the latter, this flood event is simply unfair and deserves to be ignored.

I agree to replay in case of flood.  I have been saving before every pod just to protect against getting a flood.  So far, I have not hit one, so I have had no strong reason for replay.  However, I have already popped mind worms, so I would object if someone replayed just because they hit some mind worms.

LMS is the only scenario I have played where I have seen a flood event.  I don't know if it is something special about how the scenario was made, that the pods include a flood event.  I am not familiar with scenario creation, so I am not sure whether the scenario creator has control over that or not.

As I said, I personally hate pods.  I don't like the idea of losing a game because I get Xenofungus and worms from my pods, while the other player gets AAs and monoliths.  And vice versa is just as bad.  I don't want to win because of lucky spins of pod roulette; I want to win because I played a better strategy.

If we must have pods, I would rather have them all consistently give 40-50 EC as a finders fee (to reward exploration), and have no variation beyond that at all.

As you guys know, I do A LOT of single player.

I have never seen that event in SP before. Is it some sort of bug? Never seen any game altering event like that that early, either. Just like you do not pop a pod and get 8 mindworms early game, either. One mindworm, though is not a reason to replay. It is part of the risk of popping pods. You can get Ogres, tech, and other cool things too so it balances out.

That said, it is sad, because I kind of like pods. It adds variety to the game and keeps you on your toes.

I will be keeping MSpaint open before cranking up a MP game though from here on out just to let you know I am on the up and up. Then again, I have no ego issues with having to be a bad ass. I just enjoy the mental challenge. After all, I did post an AAR with Lal where I got my butt handed to me by Miriam in a very public fashion...

It did happen to me once before, not that early in the game. There is nothing changed in the scenario related to this, pure bad luck I guess. Im for replay any way.
Next game I could check if I can change the config files to avoid it all together some how.
