Are these maps standard for tournament purposes or only for this game?

I do not know, but they seem balanced.  I hope they will be published for use after the game ends.

these were made specifically for this game. But Ill publish them after the game, and they are balanced.

I noticed that we started with each other's comm frequency.  Are we allowed to begin negotiations (tech trading, etc.) now, or are we supposed to wait until we actually encounter that faction in-game?

Wait a minute guys, something's wrong here. Earthmichael, are you sure that you don't have other players' comms at the beginning of each game you're in? Because that's the default. The relevant line in alphax.txt, in the first set of general rules, is:

1,       ; If non-zero, humans can always contact each other in hotseat/email games

The value is 1 in vanilla game. Hence, I can always see other players' profiles as if we met, I just can't contact them. I've never heard of any rule which requires any changes to alphax.txt. In fact, the first rule in the rules topic is that we can't contact before meeting, which would be kinda redundant if the above value was 0 by default. EM, can you change your alphax, please? Can someone else confirm what I'm saying?

One time I even asked in a different thread if it's ok to check other players' available info i.e. population, HQ name and SE settings and I was told it's perfectly fine (it's not banned by the rules, mind you).

I just wanted to make sure to be on the safe side.  I have seen games where the scenario rules prohibit comms until the factions have made contact.

All right, sorry, for a moment I thought we are used to different sets of rules or something. Yes, the permit to use commlinks right away is there in the first post, I guess nobody noticed it.  :P At least nobody contacted me. :) Good you mentioned that.

Actually, that rule is bad news for me. I love diplomacy and role-playing stuff, but these days I just can't afford to engage in diplo with the same 3 players in 2 different games.  ??? I hoped I'd just kind of push the early turns until I deal with RL stuff.

Usually I spend a lot of time writing in-game messages and ornamenting them with RP, but this time sorry if I come across as taciturn. I'm open for deals, just don't have time to make it fancy.  :(

You all have all the commlinks - you may use them.

LMS 1 is unplayable.  The water levels have risen dramatically and inexplicably, drowning and/or cutting off units that I had sent down the road toward the center.

I tried opening the turns my self and just finishing the turns right away and all seems OK.

Could you replay, just to check if it works?
Ive never seen such a thing.

I think i know what happened in LMS 1.

I stepped over a pod, creating the worst earthquake i have never seen before.  Now we have an scenario very much like LMS 2.

We have 3 options as i see it:

  • Start all over changing settings to not overcome the same situation
  • Starting my last turn over so we may get another outcome and continue playing
  • Or having fun with it and adapting to the new map as some random occurrence

What do you think? I personally prefer the second option, going for the third if it has strong opposition.

That sunny dome! Those caves of ice! And all who heard should see them there, And all should cry, Beware! Beware! His flashing eyes, his floating hair! Weave a circle round him thrice, And close your eyes with holy dread, For he on honey-dew hath fed, And drunk the milk of Paradise.
