Interesting, although it'd be preferable if one didn't have to look up its meaning. Judge? Magister? Overseer? Arbiter?


It means judge.

Custodians could be The Resurrectionist Forces, a translation of Ba'ath. Or maybe Qalat al-Qinturus, a translation of "Fortress of the Centaur" that really needs to be double-checked. It alludes to the Arabic name for the Alpha Centauri system and a fortress is a symbol of stability and potentially oppression.

Might as well go with President for Life, which is made all the more amusing since faction leaders get longevity treatments. We already have a colonel.

I changed his background to North Africa. Let's say that the Arab-dominated states of the Maghreb got together in the 21st century, but they still have to deal with keeping a substantial Berber minority under their thumb. That fits your conception of an oppressive paternalistic faction obsessed with keeping a lid on domestic issues.

Not sure about an alternative to morale.

That sounds good, I can get behind that. Africa needed more representation anyway.

Fun fact, Solares was originally going to be cast as an El Presidente before I switched to the well-meaning social worker angle. Much better theme IMO.

As for the morale thing, I had some thoughts. First is to nerf it down to -2, which doesn't have an immediate impact but means they have to run +MORALE SEs to get any benefit out of morale-boosting facilities, which is probably not unreasonable given their potentially huge minerals advantage. Second is to remove the -MORALE SE penalty, but instead give them some massive penalty to psi combat, like -20% or so. That would let them present a strong and sizeable army, but one that would be undercut by someone (e.g. Stewards) going native, or even hoist by their own pollution.

Gonna demur on the other name changes for now.

I'm planning on playing a singleplayer game in Will to Power with these factions, for SCIENCE, so I figured I'd kick out a quick balance update before I do. Thanks to everyone who commented so far.

Not sure if this has been noted before, but it seems the faction selection dialog in game setup seems to have a limit of 24 factions. I had another custom faction set already installed and went over the limit, so the dialog doesn't let you select the newest ones.

Oh hey man, it's been a while. Haven't done much with these factions in ages, been too busy with life and multiplayer. Probably won't do much with them next year either when Terra Invicta comes out.

The lack of install instructions must've slipped my mind. I'll update those when I'm freer in a week or so. A shoutout link would be pretty cool. :D

And yes, I did notice that when I tried to load AC+AX+Sigma+my factions all at once. Good thing to note in the instructions.

I forgot to reply to this last time I was here, but yeah, I did see those, thanks. I'd have to think about which factions should get which sets, the choice doesn't seem immediately obvious. I can safely say there's no way I'm going to get around to cropping my own base graphics though. ;lol

I haven't yet checked where this limit is specified, but I think that limit should be increased with a patch if at all possible.

Even though it's been really quiet on the forums, I've got multiple new features in the making here. Cpu usage fix and smooth scrolling are already imported, but there's potentially more stuff to add too. I could soon create a new develop build if somebody wants to take a look at the changes before new release.
