Anything to watch out for?
« on: December 04, 2018, 06:47:50 PM »
Haven't paid particular mind to the games coming out this year.  Anything worth my attention as we head into my 'off season'?

Strategy or strategy/RPG preferable.

I'm not one to look forward to games anymore, but The Outer Worlds, a first person action rpg by Obsidian caught my eye. Supposedly due out sometime 2019.

There's always CiVI expansion of course...

As a general rule first person makes me sick.  There a third person option?

But I was more asking what come out in the last year or so.  I haven't bought anything since...Dominions V last november.

I haven't bought Civ VI.  No PBEM/pitboss, no purchase.  I'm aware of third party support, that doesn't change my stance.

So, is the expansion adding PBEM/Pitboss?

No signs of one. The articles about it tend to say first person only and even mention a seeming lack of third person cutscenes and the like. No official response on the Obsidian thread asking for a third person option yet.

That’s third party support. I haven’t really seen too much activity about it even.

So, the slate of games the kids family got for Christmas:

Spiderman (Alec):  This is the first time I've seen classic spiderman captured outside the comics.  But the combat system is all about active time event dodges and frustrates me to no end.  Twitchy enough to hurt my hands if I play long at all.

Red Dead Redemption 2 (Kyle):  Haven't logged a hell of a lot of time yet, but why the hell do I have to ALWAYS go back to the damn horse and pull out the rifle every damn time I get off the horse?  Good lord, why doesn't that happen automatically?  Also why does he never have his gun cocked?  You're in a gun fight, you aim, hit fire....and he takes a second to cock the gun before firing.  This lag is real hard to get used to.  Why wouldn't the gun be cocked and ready after each firing?

Dragon Quest 11 (Talia):  Very classical JRPG.  I'm fairly enjoying this one, though the available roles are limited.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider (hEt):  I've watched hEt play a few times, and there's some GORGEOUS set design, but like the Uncharted series (and really the original Tomb Raider series), the combat has moved beyond my desires into so much shooter stuff.  That said, the sets and religion around this one (which I intermittently laugh at and praise in it's display, centered around Inca/Maya/Aztec) are interesting enough I might attempt it just to have time to wander looking at things.  In particular, there was a section featuring spider woman.

One of the updates broke it for my laptop, and I just haven't bothered finding a mod to make it work again (I'm aware there are supposedly some).

But I have a catch-22 on that game.  I really LIKE playing in campaign mode, but really hate the early grind of campaign mode.  Coupled with none of my saves are valid with current versions.

Don't know if anyone here could be interested in such kind of game but nevertheless. It's just outstandingly charming IMO. And quite immersive too.

Mankind has been blind for thousands of years?for all of its history. We have come to a place whose wonders are a hundred-fold more amazing than anything on Earth. Around us is clear evidence of the will of a higher power. I bring the Vision to the blind eyes of men. I bring the Word to the deaf ears of men. I will make them see it. I will make them hear it.
