AI Energy Demands Bug
« on: January 12, 2018, 12:34:26 AM »
Hi All,

I just had a game ruined by a strange Energy bug.

Playing on Thinker. Around 100 years in the Gaians demand something like 15,000+ energy out of nowhere. At this stage I had something like 200 energy in reserve. This would have put me way in the negative, so out of curiosity I said I could only pay half of that amount. I saw my energy go negative, but then go back to positive the next turn.

I thought that was strange (never seen it before), but then I continued the game.

About 60 years later, the same thing, this time she demands something like 32,000+ energy (my reserves were again <1000) and then when I pay her again she immediately starts cornering the energy market. ;hippy

I am playing with the Latest Yitzi patch and Prax 1.10. I havn't tweaked any of the settings except (Expansion features code {0 to 255}), of which I turned off the expansion intro and menu style.

Anyone else had this bug? Is there a known work around (or way to minimise it occuring)?

I have seen something like that when tweaking energy upkeep costs. When being on negative (not sure every time) energy was "zero'ed" Might be intended by game designers as quick fix for faction energy problem.

Interesting, I guess it makes sense to return the values positive to correct for bad data.

What I don't get was that the AI was able to make a demand that I could not do, and that there was an option for me to fullfill the request, even though I couldn't.

I wonder if something screwy is going on here though.
I did another game of Thinker yesterday and Morgan cornered the energy market seemingly out of nowhere.
Granted he had truces with all surviving factions, but there were still someting like 30+ bases on the map, he only had 7.
Next time it happens I'll open the scenario editor and see what energy amount they had.

I remember once I had something like that - and not sure, but AI possibly still got credits, from these negative values. would be a bug here I guess. But I am not sure it was exactly like this.

Industrial Grade Nano-Paste, one of Planet's most valuable commodities, can also be one of its most dangerous. Simply pour out several canisters, slide in a programming transponder, and step well away while the stuff cooks. In under an hour the nano will use available materials to assemble a small factory, a hovertank, or enough rifles to equip a regiment.
