Normally, soporific gas pods work when attacking, but not when defending.  However, in a duel (i.e. both sides use their weapon), the attacker gets to use soporific gas pods only when attacking a base.  So is this a bug?

When does such a "duel"-situation trigger? Only between two bombarding units?

Either between two bombarding units, or when an air unit attacks an interceptor (either intentionally or because the interceptor scrambled).

In this case I don't see why such a duel should follow different rules than a normal attack.

I'd consider it being a bug.

I think of this situation as the offensive defending unit has less space to roam (execute a 'perfect' defense in accordance to terrain) in the confined quarters of a base so can't really evade the soporific attack. I'd keep it as it is.

I'd say not a bug, reasoning similar to Geo.
The defender in a base has been caught on the runway without time to get airborne.

I'd rather not rationalize this if there are already similar rules in place.

If it's in the description, that's how it (ideally) should work.

Is that an attack? Yes. Is the special ability supposed to be used when attacking? Yes. Is there anything in the base or ability description suggesting that the base tile should behave otherwise? No.

Ergo, it's a bug.

Especially since it's really obvious in the code how it could happen as a bug (basically, a misplaced }.)

Why not telling us at once it is all caused by a misplaced character? :P

These things would be really useful to know beforehand. :)

The reason I didn't mention it is that the fact that it could have been a misplaced character doesn't mean that is the actual reason.  But I'll make it possible to change your vote in the poll.

I'd say not a bug.
The defender in a base has been caught on the runway without time to get airborne.
The unit defending with its weapon outside a base would be airborne and effectively "safe" from a gas attack.

Lean more towards that the gas pods should work in all situations.  A lot of the other artillery rules are different for vs base though aren't they?  I think that base defense/perimeter defense doesn't apply for the defender in artillery duels?
