Yitzi's unofficial SMAX patch 3.4

http://alphacentauri2.info/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=291

At long last, here it is.  Whether you wish genetic warfare would stop crippling your defenders, dislike some of the expansion features, or want more control over the landmarks in randomly created maps, the answer is here.

Also includes PRACX version 1.06.  To disable PRACX, run the game once to add the [PRACX] section to Alpha Centauri.ini, then change the first line in that section to Disabled=1.

Yitzi - let's think of an idea for a logo to go with your patch - it doesn't make all that much sense, but a visual component would be a help in promoting the thing...

Maybe a space at the bottom w/ the current version #, updated with each release?

Logos and so on are far from my area of expertise...

Thanks, Yitzi!

Another excellent patch. The ability to play SMAC within SMAX is an elegant new feature.

Think this has any potential as a logo?

Not sure what its significance is...

Well, your tech avatar with that eye thing in the middle changed to a Mogen David, topped with a big Y and with a pattern around the edges to indicated stitching - as if it was a cloth patch for clothing...

Hmm...I don't really love that design...I don't have any real other suggestions, though.

Yitzi, I'm trrying to convert your .txt files for this patch for use in a mod.

So:

labels.txt, is besides the 7 added lines below, and the number on top of the file, anything else changed in this file for your patch?
Code: [Select]
Receives support
facility
facilities
satellite
satellites
secret project
secret projects

And what are the changes again in script.txt? Its 4k bigger then my adjusted file.

These are sofar the only 'conflicting' files I can see.

Edit: found this difference in script.txt:
Code: [Select]
#WORLDORBIT
#xs 400
#caption SELECT PLANETARY ORBIT
#button Random
#x -5
#y -5
#itemlist
100 million miles (cool planet)
90 million miles (average planet)
80 million miles (warm planet)

Anything else?

There's the number at the beginning, changed from 1131 to 1138 (that number has to equal the number of entries), and (from an earlier correction IIRC) correcting the typo in the line "RETIRE ALL: Scenario Editor fuction; clears all player prototypes" (which may not be relevant in your conversion).

Again, typo and similar corrections (they came from an earlier change, I forget which), and (more importantly) the whole #RETOOLPENALTY section has been redone.  (I also reverted an earlier change I made in #LANDMARKTOOMANY, from 56 back to $NUM0$.)[/quote]

Thanks. :)

Just had something weird (in Yitzi 3.4, PRACX active). At around turn 75 units moved by the arrow keys move slow (I could actually see the animations). Those moved by mouse still moved at normal speed. AI units also moved slow.

Not sure what's going on with that...have you tested if it happens in the same game without my patch?

Although some of the changes do make some things somewhat slower; it shouldn't be enough to slow things down beyond what they would be with the original on the computers available when the game first came out, but I can't be certain of that.

Haven't tested it yet. I'll let you know if it continues when I continue playing this game.

If these are new to my patch, I can probably fix them, given (for each one) a savegame and description as to what to do to cause the problem to occur when using my patch but not with older versions.

If these problems predate my patch, then that's a request for an AI improvement; I am not currently working on AI, though if a lot of people want an AI overhaul at the expense of other things I can start on figuring out how it works...
