This is going to be a very interesting year...

One of the scouting rovers run out of... luck...
Traveling on fungus they encountered a supply pod, which turned out to be infested with mindworms.
The two boils surrounded the team on one side, while on the other sea coast cut their retreat options.


In case, when not remembering: mindworms do not attack mindworms.
So our boil is safe this time.

There is 9 crawlers working on Gaian soil, among which one is a special design worth over 3 standard ones.
With their help we can attempt special projects. Two proposals were selected:
- Advanced Weather Control System (AWCS)
- Supplies Exchange Center (SEC)

The first option had tremendous advantage among council members. Weather Paradigm, as they called
the AWCS, was so close to heart of every Gaian.



The Weather Paradigm will work on developing synergy between planetary ecosystem and terraforming efforts.
Expected is significant increase in terraforming efficiency.



Although, it would seem, that all Gaians would have no objections to selecting AWCS as the first
faction-wide project, several council members, among which was also XO, strongly advised to create
exchange center, which would ease barter economy of the faction.

The discussions were long and provided much material for news network, that interested majority of the faction.
"The weather system is essential for ecological harmony of this planet. We already have reports, that Spartans
will most likely be damaging Chiron with increasing speed." argued The First Planetologist. "I am surprised,
that I have to make such explanations to Gaians!"

Correspondents and reporters clearly unified to criticize the SEC option supporters were writing in news headers:

Doubtful XO Stand on Faction Doctrine
It was surprising for many when during todays council meeting on next faction major effort the XO stated,
that he would advise to create the Supplies Exchange Center at the present time and postpone til its completion
initialization of the Advanced Weather Control System. 'Is he Gaian?' asked many. ...

Another article was more bold in suspicions:

Morganic Spies Among Us?
This article will be short and down to facts. A small councilmen group today during strategy meeting opposed starting
of the Advanced Weather Control System (AWCS), and proposed completing so-called Merchant Exchange (!!!) before
any other major faction project. Such statement from a Gaian? Do we have some underground communications
with CEO Morgan? Or even worse, a Morganic spy acting in our council, that is aimed on destroying our factional
doctrines so our future generations could be easily converted to materialism? ...

After the meeting, Lady Deirdre asked all main councilors for private discussion.
"Councilors! This stalemate cannot last. We need to start the project this week. Would you agree on one of them?"
The First Planetologist decided to stand firm on his position:
"I do not see any good reason in selecting this industrial project. What we have now is sufficient and we already can see
ecological problems, Lady."
"No, the ecological damage is minor at this point" argued XO, "And our economy must be developed in order to
support further terraforming efforts. Including AWCS."
"Why this Morganic inclination? We do have good planners. Our economy is sufficient."
"Such economics cannot last indefinitely. Barter on larger scale will result in increased overhead. We need better system.
The sooner, the better. By allowing Morgan to monopolize trade we will loose in long run."
"Terraforming is already at the limit. Many bases will soon lack terrain to get enough minerals. Not to mention energy."
Lady Deirdre was looking at a report during this conversation, now she closed it.
"Ok, councilors. I have made my decision."
Everyone looked at her awaiting in silence.
"We start both projects simultaneously. The delay on their completion will be only a short one. Our production is sufficient
to make such decision. It is unlikely anyone on the planet can complete them before us."

"The team is in place, Lady. Awaiting your orders."
"Thank you, lieutenant. Display the situation screen."



For half a minute there is complete silence as everyone takes a look at the recent images and situation map from Sparta Command
vicinity. The former on the east passage removed fungus. Spartan negligence to environment can be seen right away here.
Anyway... Spartans did leave a free passage to their base south-west, and they indeed will be infiltrated!

"Proceed, lieutenant."

Lieutenant is not so cheerful though. He turns his eyes to Lady, who with silent look waited for explanation.



"They were not adequate for this mission, Lady. I told you."
"They completed the mission, major. Isn't that a success?"
"Yes, it is! However..."
"Do you think they will torture them?"

Gaian Laboratories report completion of Doctrine: Initiative.
New designs are possible, and something that first comes out from design boards
in Gaia's Landing Navy Office is Trance Destroyer Supply.


Next technologies to research are:
- Ethical Calculus
- Nonlinear Mathematics

Spartans were researching this particular military tech of nonlinear math, and according
to infiltration data they just completed it! I count on downloading it from them.
And their military is not that strong. So it is domestic growth direction,
Ethical Calculus is chosen.

And the first Secret Project is started in Last Rose of Summer base.
It is Weather Paradigm.

What was behind this decision? Fear of riots in case Merchant Exchange was selected first?

GTS Flower continues its course near Spartan coast. After delivery of our first probe team
and discovery of it by Colonel Santiago, it would seem, that the foil is lost.
Yet Santiago has no navy! Her strength is 5 rover scouts and 4 patrol scouts.
The foil can make interesting discoveries, including benefits of Unity supply pods.

Meanwhile, the southern exploration foils continues.
Unity supply pods are uncovered on a regular basis.
And one, that is north from Spartan territory is exceptionally rich.
112 minerals worth. All loaded on the new destroyer supply ship.

Roads congested
Unusual traffic on roads leading to Last Rose of Summer base cannot be overlooked.
Gaians wonder, what is going on? Base Command is silent. Our reporters are
not allowed to even ask, after five inquiries in the last three days.
Convoys of supply crawlers arrive to main storage dome. What are they bringing?
We tried to ask one of the drivers, "Don't know. Just some sealed equipment..."

What is going on in Fort Survivalist?
Ah, yes. There is this new base close to Gaian territory, that Santiago cared to
established. Great! Just have it in the main network,  ... please

Rover is done and now guarding base. And a colony pod started.
Discover and Conquer? Bright and educated soldier approach.

Meanwhile...

It was quiet evening on the west outskirts of Lily base. Sounds of Monsoon Jungle
could be heard very clearly in cold air.
XO Mart got out from his rover. Going all the way from Gaia's Landing in as little
time as possible to make his tense schedule possible, was rough experience.
But the matter was important. He received this morning a message from
the commander of this new secret base, hidden in dense flora of the jungle
between hills west of Lily base.
The place was beautiful. Though not frequently visited by base inhabitants.
There were other places where they could visit and admire the jungle.
Nothing was giving away this location for a tourist, as the base entrances were
camouflaged.

He sent the rover back to the base. Armed only with a standard security troops pistol,
sterted to walk towards a small clearing in the line of trees and native vine
bushes. There was a path, that was supposed to make impression of a tourist route.
Five minutes later he was standing at the foot of a hill, near uneven rock wall.
Gave a radio signal, and a few seconds later confirmation code came: "safe to enter"
A passage in the wall appeared...

The Advanced Weather Control System (AWCS), or as some call it "Weather Paradigm," is completed
in Last Rose of Summer base.
"So this is why there was so much traffic on the roads!"

It is the first such large project made on Chiron, to the best knowledge of Gaians.



The most advanced terraforming technologies became available for Gaian workers.



This planet will be now shaped in Gaian way.





A new design is worked on, a defensive unit with additional trance ability.
It will make safer for the crews to meet mindworms.


And a second mindworm boil is captured.
Will the native life of this planet serve us?

This secret project was not so celebrated. Its ideology, so close to CEO Morgan
values, is not admired by Gaian colonists. Luckily, as some say, the factional
command sees its benefits in long time.

Time to make Gaian faction stronger. The first unit armed with laser rifles is ready.

Ok, Morgan. I know. You nailed some used steel food cans to your fishing boats
and gave those poor unlucky fishermen few guns...
I am so afraid of you!



So now we start threats...



That was quick.

Foil was sailing along sea fungus line, yet in clear water to reach the destination
as soon as possible. There was nothing on radar, but as they approached the coast,
they could expect some Spartan observers or even boats or rafts.
Night was falling fast. They had sunset sun behind them, but this was the best
place, according to infiltration data, to reach Spartan coast away from their traffic.
Blackwidow stood on the foil bow observing rocky coast on the horizon with binocular.
"There."
Captain of the foil looked in that direction.
"Ok, Black. You got it."

Finally, the day of the second Gaian Intelligence mission.
How will it be remembered? Better? Or worse?
Infiltration of Spartan network was a success, but loosing the team placed a bad mark
on the secret service.

"Is our team in place?"
"Ready to go. Shall I give the order?"
"Go ahead"



"We have a comm signal. There is an option. We can frame Morgan for this action."

That would be interesting. They have Treaty Agreement. Probably this would result
in Vendetta! However...

"What are the odds?"
"50% to success. The team will be certainly lost."

Well, he started to like that smart agent. She was really good. That would be a waste,
even if Morgan and Santiago would start to fight each other.

After successful probe action and acquiring Spartan files on Nonlinear Mathematics,
Lady Deirdre calls for a meeting to decide what to do with this new technology.



"Councilmen, there are two things, that I would like to talk about.
First, we have blueprints on so-called 'impact weapon.'
What do you think we should do with it?"
"Prototype it. Infantry gun is first. The cheapest and quickest to do."
"Yes, my vote goes there too. We need it sooner to defend against possible
Spartan invasion."
"So it is decided. These documents will be forwarded to our military workshop as soon as possible."

"And another matter. What do you think about... the more pure knowledge or scientific part of it?
Have you seen the highlights I sent you?"
"Yes, Lady"
"Yes."



"There is a lot of complicated stuff. This is really for Zakharov's head."

Lady Deirdre left the room. That was not a pleasant day. Yet another test!
Councilmen yet again took a look at problematic mathematical proof.
No one said anything and within 10 minutes the meeting room was empty.

As incompetent as I am at math, it's not difficult (merely tedious) to follow the equations - the forth, fifth and sixth lines all involve multiplying by zero, and the conclusion does not follow.

Preparing action against Fort Survivalist. Maintaining position in this rocky area is a good place to launch
an attack. With a defending unit 1-2-2, it will be difficult for Santiago to make a preventing strike.
