Is it worth to go beyond Earth?

Well, sorry for starting my presence on this forum right with new topic creation...

I know, I know, I read reviews and such... And I was a big fan of good old SMAC(X) too.
But if I would ask you to express your feelings about new Firaxis title in...say...THREE words that could describe this game best way - what these words would be?

(Gameplay wise, it looks like a Civ V reskin. I wouldn't like SMAC that much if it werent for the backstory and personality)

An AC mod would definitely help it go a long way...

Especially if proper social engineering (perhaps even as an extension of the affinity system) could be implemented instead of virtues.

I think it may very well have to come from indie devs (and wasn't Firaxis itself fairly indie-like back when SMAC came out?)
