Title: Multiplayer games
Post by: MetallEater on August 19, 2014, 07:21:06 PM
Hi to all! I love this game very much. I'm a newcomer in this forum and I'd like to play multiplayer with someone but  i can't find any online players for this game. So how and when can i  find  players?  I have SMAC and SMAX, + latest patch(also unofficial patches). TCP/IP or PBEM. I have a lot of time for playing in hamachi or gameranger. Thanks for the help

Hello and welcome to this forum! Although these days I can't really play TCP/IP with you, we can arrange for some 1v1 game or even ask somebody to set up a new game for 4 players (a standard for SMAC MP). If no game creator (CMN) shows up, I can play a HtH with you on a random map, or maybe even two games at once to even the randomness somewhat. Up to you, really. We can wait a couple of days to see if anyone decides to join a bigger game.

BUncle will want to know, so to get it out of the way - how did you find us? :)

Feel free to post any info about your preferences, experience, etc.

Random game latets unofitial patch?

Post by: Kirov on August 24, 2014, 04:14:37 PM
It seems we won't find a gang and a CMN for a standard game of 4. Maybe an HvH or two?

I think need online contact like ISQ or Hamachi, inasmuch as different time zones. So i created the Hamachi network. Name: Domai. Pass: 123

I'm up for a PBEM, too.
When you play a multiplay game, it's without IA? Why?
Title: Re: Multiplayer games
Post by: t_ras on August 26, 2014, 07:48:02 AM
It can be with or without AI. Kirov,MetallEater what do you say?

So who wants to play, join to my network and msg me.
Title: Re: Multiplayer games
Post by: t_ras on August 27, 2014, 06:00:02 AM
I think it will be PBEM, so no network needed.
Title: Re: Multiplayer games
Post by: Kirov on August 28, 2014, 04:03:08 PM
MetallEater, usually we play PBEMS, slow yes, but also lets you play more efficiently (I noticed I always 'hurry' in IP games and never play as good as in PBEMs). I'm up for an IP game as well, but not these days, I'm afraid. I'll let you know if anything changes. My timezone is GMT+1, by the way.

And yes, I'm up for a PBEM if t_ras can set it up.

Title: Re: Multiplayer games
Post by: funbot on September 17, 2014, 09:19:12 PM
Sure, I'm up for another game. Wouldn't mind having more players than 1vs1 match, since i already have that now with metaleater. Though if it comes to that, another 1vs1 would be fine too.

Well well well, the Angels and the Cult already on the board. I think I'll settle with Santi in this case. As for the other settings - steal tech off, blind off, no AI, other ones as you guys pick.

The only thing I strongly insist as usual is banning the Empath Guild and the Cloud-Base Academy, proved to be game-breakers. Can we go with that, guys?

Kirov - Corazon Santiago
MallaxOZ - Shen-Ji Yang

We ban the EG and CBA and the rest is as usual. I'm looking forward to this game!  ;b;

Yeah; start a TTT thread; some of us like to watch, and it's a way of letting the (potential MPlayer) public know we have games in progress.

Also emailing is a good backup, mind, and an additional notification to the next guy...

Yep, it is a god map if you look for total balance, I prefer more "random" maps, but if you have no AI this is the best!

Sorry, I though it would be enough to see it. But if it is a real issue then you may replay the turn for this time.
To all the others:
you have all 3 pod+3 formers+3 scouts (Gaia has 1 mind worm instead of one of the scouts and Sparta has the bonus unit)

That is if you'll explain how to play in a MP game.
Title: Re: Multiplayer games
Post by: MallaxOZ on October 14, 2014, 08:17:27 AM
Nothing complicated really. The only difference between a single game and a multi is at the end of a turn. Instead of pushing "end of turn" and play the next turn, you'll see a window asking you to save. This save has to be sent to the next player. In order to prevent mistakes, each player has a password, so you can't see the turn of other human players. That's it.

Also, in the game, there are certain rules that we agree on, you can see a list here: http://alphacentauri2.info/index.php?topic=1519.0 (http://alphacentauri2.info/index.php?topic=1519.0)
Title: Re: Multiplayer games

I've read the rules and am ready to go. (I do worry about accidentally breaking rule 10, as that seems possible, although I think that was fixed when using Yitzi's patch). AND to confirm you are using the 3.1e patch, correct.

So got my turn done, but my faction colour is red. Is that ok.

Edit:
How does one use the iniswap2.2.

Edit2: I then went back and tried to sort the above out. Couldn't get iniswap to work the way I thought it would. Then the game tells me that if I play this again, I will be reported for tampering. So I'm going to leave things as is until someone tells me what to do.

Will be here until 8pm GMT, then have a Spanish class until approx 10pm GMT. This is now 16:53 GMT

So no reply, its 02:07 GMT and I'm going to bed. I'll post the save anyway.

Spanish class? OK, Ill go for spanish ;)
No se como trabaja el  iniswap2.2. Lo que podes hacer es empesar un SP jugando los 4 primeros jugadores siendo los mismos que en MP44 y guardando despues del primer turmo - eso va a arreglar tu partido.
Disfruta!

Senni, it's OK if you reload your turn for such reasons as using iniswap. Just don't abuse it. And it's considered nice to post that there were reloads and why.

So whose turn it's now? funbot's?

Gave up on iniswap I'll just have to put up with red Gaian's, don't know if you can run it after the start of the game.  That's ok. I posted what happened earlier in this thread. Sorry, my sleep apnoea is going through an exacerbation, and I'm rather slow and stupid at the moment. Going back to the hospital clinic to get my CPAP machine fixed next week. So shall be less cognitively impaired by next week.
I'm afraid that I was so excited about my first ever MP game I jumped in whilst not sure of what I was doing, and too impatient to wait for the sun to cross the Atlantic. Also I noticed that the game save said Gaia rather than Spartans (which flashed up on the save screen as I saved) so it might not be picked up by funbot in the TTT thread someone should let him know. I wonder if I saved the game properly, as it saved in my main directory rather than the save folder. You know we could do with a how to play MP game how-to, for idiots like me.

Edit I remember clicking ok when saving, was that right. Don't want to much about with it in cause I do more damage. Sorry the sleep apnoea can be very debilitating at times.

OK, But I cope you speak a little (poco) and not a pack (pico) ;)
I never tried iniswap2.2. You can just begin an SP with the same factions in the same order as in the game and save it. this will save the correct visual settings.

Thanks for that, I was overcomplicating things. 2.2 is the one in the archives here. Pico was a typing error. Lots of those this week. Has the player who was after me pick up the save That I posted after my move, in the TTT thread.

I find iniswap extremely handy and it's fairly easy to set up, let me know what kind of problems you have run into. I already did my turn and pushed it to Mallax.

Thinks for that. At the moment I need a step by step idiot's guide, so I'll probably leave it til next week when my CPAP machine is back running properly.
