[RUMOR] Civilization VI will have a solid DirectX 12 backend

Despite the funny and childish graphic, Civilization VI will have a solid DirectX 12 backend, and it will utilize DX12 advanced features more than any other title. An example, the recent Total War: Warhammer.

According to our sources, the Firaxis developers will take advantage of Asynchronous Compute and Resource Heap features in order to create a deep and articulate gameplay. Thanks to these DX12 features, Civilization VI will be able to guarantee a lot better artificial intelligence and a more detailed world than previous chapters.

If Total War: Warhammer has shown that GCN micro architecture is aging like a good wine, Civilization VI could be able to point out even a better state.

- These are not official info! -

Thanks.  :)

This is what fans of the series like to hear!

How the hell does dx12, a GRAPHICS API, have anything to do with the AI?

Stupid * 6.

So does this have something to do with better A.I.? -

"Firaxis developers will take advantage of Asynchronous Compute and Resource Heap features in order to create a deep and articulate gameplay"

How being unsynchronized and having your resources in a heap, helps I haven't a clue, but it sounds easier to accomplish that way.

If they code the game so it makes use of those, then it's a good thing.

But dx12 itself doesnt enable a better AI.

My Civ VI perusal at CFC came across a couple of things.

* The VI art director,  Brian Busatti, also did  Civ Rev.

* If they where going to do a spherical map, they would have announced it already as a major feature- speculates
Jon Shafer.

*"64-bit was never on the table for Civ 5. I'd be surprised if it was for Civ 6 as well, but you never know. It's a huge engineering effort for not nearly as huge of a benefit.

Does DX12 imply or require Windows10?

DX12 is for Win10 based OS's, so Win10 (obviously), Xbox One and the latest Windows phones.  There's no stand alone install for DX12 as it's packaged automatically with Win10.

My guess is they'll do like Civ5 have support DX11 and DX12 from the menu.

Civ 6 is confirmed for GNU/Linux, so they might have bothered to go with an engine that supports opengl properly from the beginning this time. If they do, the opengl version should run on windows, too (and if your engine supports DX11 and OpenGL, it's probably easy to extend it to support DX10 or whatever).

Thanks Dale.

I gotta ask: What's with the leather helmet and goggles? Where you in an open cockpit plane? Or maybe some kind of Mad Max machine? I flew in an open cockpit biplane once, it was a cool experience.

I got to fly an open cockpit biplane.

That is awesome! Aren't they amazing with their tight turning radius and low stall speed?

Those planes are amazing.  Though I wasn't allowed to throw this one around much as the owner uses it for tourist flights.  It's his bread and butter.

I had no idea you knew how. You certainly look dashing. Immelmans aside, they're almost helicopter-like in low speed maneuvers.

He looks like a dashing heroic pilot ordered from central casting in that shot, in fact.  The American in a British WWI film.  :P ;lol

Back in my flying days I always did Cessnas.   I always wanted to try a biplane.

I understand that one of the blogzine guys asked at a press test play event, and got a confirmation that the game will be 64 bit.

Is that the reason for the new from scratch engine?
