Yes.  Ladies are definitely more likely to be into it.  Most of the men do ships and architecture, not people so much.

Well, Geo and BU, their artwork seems pretty cool but it is not my thing. I still love it when folks get to have fun creating stuff.

Anyways, I am newbish compared to those guys. Hopefully me ranting on my learning pains will help others and I may learn a thing or two.

Speaking of learning pains, unlike what I was considering before, I have made the decision NOT to monetize. After assessing my current skills, I think it is kind of tacky to do that when I need a lot of polish. It is easy to hear all these stories and watch really good people, but you have no idea much how much skill they have.

I also decided that I am really not concerned about view numbers, per se. Instead I am concerned with learning through repetition. That said, second part of the Age of Wonders game will be up tomorrow. It should go a little easier.

THINGS I MUST WORK ON.

STYLE

1. I am not sure if my Southern Mississippi/ New Orleans accent hurts or helps. I do know in may places in the USA at least, some folks view it as ignorant. Others capitalize on it. I am not sure altering my speech is necessary but I must at least speak faster than most southerners.

2. Ums and Ahhs must go. I slurred over once when I almost tripped over my words at first, but at least I did not have that.

3. Towards the end of part 1, I was struggling as to what to say. I think I mentioned I wanted to end it shortly, twice and I also was so worried about stuttering that I did not read the quest text and thought I won a city but did not. I should never be wanting to end it but always be excited, even if drained.

CONTENT

1. Game has been out, and I missed release. Google search will send me views at around 10 - 5 per day unless I push this, which I am not too willing to do yet. Why so low? AoW3 is a niche game plus, I am a newb. The WoW video has 1k views. I expect about 100 at end of month as I complete playlist. But because it is far post release, audience will want more tactical talk and less mechanic talk.

2. Must work on thumbnails and channel art. This will be where I need help.

You're right about um's and ahhs.  My opinion on the accent is useless, me being a North Carolinian.  I noticed an accent, but didn't think much about it, and didn't react as non-southerners would.  I happen to think their bigotry is their problem, but you're absolutely correct that it's a pragmatic consideration you shold take into account - but I'd be impressed if you could extemporize at length in a neutral broadcaster non-accent.  That's infinitely harder to learn than it sounds, and if you can't already and/or hope to go into radio talent work, I doubt it's worth a second thought.  Concentrate on smoothness of your diction and technical excellence for a better return on your effort.  Be southern and it's no big deal, in other words.  -So don't read the comments, for your own mental health, please.  (There weren't any yet when I looked, but some drunk 13 year-old Yankee is going to -- you already know this.)

Mylochka could help you more w/ the delivery advice, but she's always AFK working when she feels good, and little internet is going to happen for her anytime soon.  I have given Cher a heads-up, and I hope she'll come chat you up about video making.

It was a good-looking vid, with a strong opening.  The umms and ahhs will tend to take care of themselves largely as you get used to talking while you record your play, I daresay.  You've nailed that the main thing you need to do is keep at it and learn by repetition as you go.  Good start. ;b;

I used to perform for a living, you'll recall, and practice makes perfect when a smart feller like you is doing it.  You just plain get better if you observe and think and keep doing.

I know some guys who can help you w/ art...

I hear you on the comment part.

The comments for Age of Wonders when I get them I am not worried about. The average bigoted 13 year old mouth breather can not appreciate a 4x of any kind. Add to that the 4x crowd has always been very cordial and intelligent. Even when they insult you, they use complete sentences and reasoning.

That old World of Warcraft PvP video where I was just messing around.... my goodness... One guy told me I should go kill myself because I keyboard turned. I erased that comment. But yeah... I could see how that could affect one's mental health no matter how thick skinned one is.

I still maintain it is 4x. Even CFC is not that bad. At least I have never run into issues there.

I have even been posting on Triumph Studio's forum. You do have the occasional crossover from fantasy MMOs like WoW that whine and have introduced MMO terms into the AoW 4x community. But, for the most part everyone is civil.

I do not think it is just AC2.

Speaking of posting on Triumph.... Next week I FINALLY get a real internet since I have been kicking ass lately. No more cell phone hacks and tethers. I may try this... which I think is a sneaky way to market. I may try to AAR a random MP IP to IP game. Post may ignored because of the caste system of MP community at AoW3 ignores non beta testers. But, I want experience with that kind of editing as the next project. Audio will be separate from video and I will ighlight moves. An editing challenge. It also must be done fairly quickly. Since I have a post in tread with dev interest, a link would be appropriate if I have the goods. Even though it will not be a two sided deal.

Yeah.. this is going to be tough.

But that is the next challenge. Let's practice putting up content on a regular basis and making it seamless while increasing quality.

Here is the post. IntentionalTravels is a aspect of Green1.

Please, do not take this as me wishing to focus on AoW3. I do not want to be tied to one game, nor do I think it is good learning to be tied to one game.

I’d also like to watch something like this.. maybe even one person playing a match against someone else and a commentator commenting on the progress, speculating why he does what, etc. Would be especially awesome if that commentator could also switch views between player 1 and player 2.

I have been dabbling in YouTube vids as of late and I think I am getting the hang of it. I have been thinking about recording a random MP match.

My only deal is that I have not done an MP match yet because of a shaky internet connection. Come to think of it, I do not think I have done a proper MP match since a PBEM or two in another game on another site that I lost interest in because it was taking months and my life got busier.

I plan on solving the shaky internet by changing ISPs by next week. I may be sneaky and record a game at that time on a day off when I can dedicate time to it.

While I am willing to record just to get better at making videos and personal development, do you think there is room for a MP newbie to make mistakes? Or do you think they just want to watch very good almost “pro” MPers?

I just ended a few months swimming regularly in the ocean of urine that is 'poly OT, and I stand behind my remarks about not all the community being all that mature.  (It was an education swimming w/ the pee sharks.  I swam well, as it happened, and bit back, betimes, deeply. ;)  I contain multitudes.)

Focus on AoW3 if you need to.  I'm happy to have made Other Games for you when you needed it. ;nod

Just try check the ocean next time. If it is more yellow than blue....

On a side note, I believe I have figured out how you can record SMAX after putting two and two together and reading a lot. You have to have an external capture card.

Probably will need one if I turn out liking doing these. From reading, the way I do it uses way too much space with FRAPS.

I am also having pains with FRAPs. I pressed the play hotkey and the FPS monitor indicated it was recording, but when I checked it had only recorded the last :38 seconds. When I say record, RECORD!!!!

Sad, because I think I am getting a lot better and seem not to be so nervous and self conscious around a mic in that video. I think I am getting to some good stuff.  Now I have to do something I never said I would do and reload.

I feel bad because I was starting to get absolutely stomped by the AI, though I was pushing back. Now I will have to re record with knowledge of my mistakes. It goes against my principles.

Some technical points: .avi, .mp4 and .wmv files are all video containers.

A container contains the audio and video for the film with each encoded separately. If you want to change your file size then you need to change the codec rather than the container.

The standard tool for converting film between formats and handling scaling, etc, is ffmpeg. It's a command line tool but there are probably graphical interfaces for it.

Veritasium has a great video on this.

Forget to mention, h.264 is pretty much the state of the art video compression algorithm at the moment.

Man, that video was the most non-BS video ever on content. He cut straight to the chase.

Thank you.

His main points being the worry.

I worry about the slowness of the uploads. I worry about technical issues. I worry about accents, etc, etc. I worry about being dead tired from a job and combined with those worries not do anything some days.

When really, I should just keep trucking.

Thanks.
