Mostly people in the Civ community use the same handle, or similar, throughout the community, AFAIK.

And never any harm with trying with someone missing - they might not come back, but they might if they get the ping.  You never know - and former members, of course, are proven quantities compared to newbs, who we DO want, but even the most promising ones mostly wander off after a month...  You just have to shotgun to everyone and play the numbers.  It pays off.

Makes sense. It may be because the Civ community seems to stick with one genre. I guess I am an oddball here, but I prefer to use a different handle for different type genres. That way, particularly if I made a faux pas, I could recover a bit easier. But, it also handicaps me because I have done a lot of good things and one handle can not benefit from the content of another. I do suppose if someone was alert enough and paid attention to my posting style, I could be revealed. But, I would care not either way at this point.

He's Australian.  On the weekends the rough types hunt each other out in the bush.
Dale, does that go too far?

Only goes too far if you also mention that Foster's sucks as a beer. Only Americrap Budwieser products can match the crappiness of Aussie brew.

But, I like Aussies. Only the Russians can match them in in matching how I game. But, I can understand at least half of what Aussies say while a Russian must speak English and they can talk smack  behind my back by speaking to each other in their little private language right in my face.

I reached out to an old friend a week ago -great guy, though we'd quarreled over a creative collaboration not long before we lost touch, but not immediately before - and it can't be a coincidence that he showed up at the place where I pinged him shortly afterwards after five months away and got active.

But no answer to my ping.  ...  Message received.

[furrows brow]  I'd have sworn that not only was he flat dead wrong in our point of contention, but that I, at the most unfavorable interpretation I'd find even faintly reasonable, got no more nasty about it than he did.  In actual fact, I was guilty of no more than asserting my hard-earned experience and authority on the subject and getting a little stubborn.  I kept suggesting we move on and finish a rough draft of the project before we fought that one issue out.  Thing is, it's just stupid to put your foot down and treat a collaborator as art robot in the area of his expertise - I wasn't even the one who walked away and killed a lovely project, out of line as he was in every way, and I let it go a long time ago.  Sighhh.

Most of the invitations I put out don't work, so it's not that, but it just puzzles me that someone I think so highly of can be so small about something so long dead. :(

Maybe they just wish not to be bothered or have moved on to where things just are not as important.

For instance, there was this person who was in the big World of Warcraft guild I was in who tracked me down last year. I got the message, but just did not bother. No insult to her, but it just was not worth my time. Add to that she always was the guild chat attention [prostitute] along with rumored numerous cross country shenanigans.

The internet can be funny hat way, as can real life. Some things that may seem important to one, may be trivial to another.

I did, however, receive a phone call from an old guildee 2 years back. We talked about Eve and old WoW for about an hour but have not talked since. I do not think I even have his number or contact info anymore.  I think he as well as I were missing the old days. I guess that is what it comes down to. There is no connection online except what things folks have in common. If that disappears, there is nothing.

Still, anyone worse than me at letting go needs to look hard in a mirror - I hope you're right.

I would not worry too much.

Hell, there are some that will not even talk to me over drama. Pretty petty stuff. Mostly from my alter ego on the Twisting Nether WoW server. My fault, too. I developed a sense of Unwarranted Self Importance - a common malady that inflicts nerds that are givena measure of power who have never handled such power before. But hey, I learned a valuable lesson. Positions I had after that, I realized that it was more for public service because I could do something, not a status that is illusory and transient anyways. Too bad I was a jerk at times.   Maybe a few on Eve, but you should not be playing Eve if you have inabilities to not get mad over a video game or are able to separate your online persona from your actual self. Even on Eve, I was older and a bit wiser. I AM a villain with honor. These people needed "content and drama" to make them better people and were insulting and got on my nerves.

I was always aware of my power as a common member - I'm a modder, a teacher of modding and an activity dynamo.  I create content and encourage others to do same.  I do more good than harm when I'm treated with respect - and I know how to vote with my feet if some nerdbadged fool gets uppity.

This is why I put up with being the nerdbadged fool myself here, and all the work that comes with that; I finally found a place where I don't have to prove it's a bad idea to make me unhappy - and from a safe position, I get to be a lot more gentle, which is the guy I want to be. ;nod

Do you have the equipment to handle Beyond Earth modding or even play the game if it happens to take off like Alpha Centauri did? What kind of rig is in the BU command center?

As for myself, I am assuming if I can run Civ 5 or Age of Wonders 3 on low settings, I should not have many issues. I may build something much later down the road.

Oh, my machine was basic specs 3 years ago when I got it - if I do any BE modding, it will be with screenies someone supplied me - I've never had 5, but did a pile of avatars when it came out anyway.

Actually, I should upload said pile to the installed stuff, shouldn't I?  I think I'll do that now.

I will probably not get involved with Civ:BE due to a very limited financial budget. My computer was basic and standard 4 years ago.

Hmm.  That reminds me to boot FileZilla and upload some Civ II & 5 avatars...

Edit: Please wait while uploading of several hundred avatar goodies is in progress...

Well, I'm pretty pleased with myself - I was spying on Nikolai at WPC (way to go, Nik! - but you should linkback the leader model article...) when I saw Arcainite was onsite - I won't log in for just anything, but this made the cut.  A quick PM later, he signed up here almost instantly.  It never goes that easily.
