I can't find the Load Save function on the multiplayer menu.

that's because you have to choose 'hotseat/play by email' first:

How to play-by-email?
1. Launch SMAC / SMAX.
2. Choose Multiplayer.
3. Choose hotseat/play by email.
4. Choose Load Multiplayer Game.
5. Load in the game you received via email or downloaded from the TTT (turn tracking thread).
6. Put in your password.
7. Play your turn.
8. Press "Turn complete".
9. Choose "Save and exit".
10. Create a new file. The file name should include an abbreviation for the game, the year and the next player. This helps avoid confusion, e.g. Ladder game #1_to_sisko_2125.SAV.
11. Email the turn to the next player.
12. Post in the TTT, e.g. "2125 to sisko" feel free to say anything else you want but please indicate the year and where it went.
13. Have fun.

It seems to me that LMS 1 never got off the ground too... we will have to wait 5 days to call AI take turn.

I think you should just continue without me. My multiplayer menu only has 3 options, and I think my version must be outdated. I'll see if I can find the latest version soon, but right now, I'm just not helping anyone.

Im sopossed to turn you to AI if you dont respond in 5 days. I'll take it as if 2 days had pass, you have 3 more.
I'm sure every one else would rather wait those 3 days and have another player than an AI.

gog.com  has a weekend special where they are selling SMAC digital download for $2.39.  This is a cheap way to legally get the latest version.

Lizard, you need to install the scientIffic patch.

The first attachment below is from an install I have of the original release of SMAC.

The second is same, (I think) but patched.  We have the patch in Downloads.
