Fixed sfx files
« on: March 19, 2022, 01:35:17 PM »
Hi. I'm Foehn, and i've been playing SMAC/X since I was knee high to a mind worm, and I'm still in love with it. I'm aware that the sound effects for the singularity laser and missile launcher aren't formatted properly (or something like that) and don't play in game. Is there a way to fix them, or is there a download for files that do work ingame? Thanks in advance. Been lurking here a while and thought I may as well join in.

Hmm, I've been playing with a modded sound set for eons.  There must be a thread about that, from back in the stone ages.

Found the thread.  Follow its quote link:
Awhile back I made some replacement Files for the ACx sound effects. Mostly weapons but a few other changes. I'm Happy with them and thought I would share here. I posted on another Civ forum and neglected to post here. For this I apologize.

Just copy and override them in the fx folder. Good idea to back up the entire folder before hand.
If you try them let me know what ya think. Enjoy  8)

I wouldn't call these a "fix" so much as a completely different sound design.  Many, I kept.  A few, were too annoying and I reverted to the original sounds.

I think the scient patch 2.1 also fixes these, but not 100% sure.

I have some rather serious sound issues here, but my ver. is playing on a SERIOUSLY Outdated XP (and def-infected+bugged) build and maybe the oldest patches around, so I'm not a good litmus test.
