What does planet orbit do?
« on: July 30, 2018, 04:36:24 AM »
Yitzi's patch enabled it.  xscript.txt says:
Quote
100 million miles (cool planet)
90 million miles (average planet)
80 million miles (warm planet)

However I don't know what their real practical effects on the map are.  I could never get a mental picture when playing Yitzi's patch, because the actual menus don't include the text in parentheses.  So I didn't even know this was a selector for {cool average warm}.

I'm on the wind-down for possible things to include in my mod.  I don't know if there's an easy way to enable feature, or if it was achieved with .exe hacking black magic.  I also don't know what it does even if enabled.  So someone enlighten me?

I've now noticed this was discussed in the Decompilation Coordination Thread.  World temperature seems to have esoteric effects on stuff.  So I guess my question becomes, as a player, have you really noticed much of anything when selecting different values in Yitzi's patch?

It affects overall global dampness pole to pole, like a greenhouse effect (not rainfall; that's handled separately, and the effects are localized).
I did read an explanation once, but I don't remember now if it's (cool=dry, warm=wet) or (cool=wet, warm=dry). I'm inclined toward (cool=dry, warm=wet).

Yes.
My planets are massive. Those temperature bands are noticeable.

I think, and my thoughts cross the barrier into the synapses of the machine - just as the good doctor intended. But what I cannot shake, and what hints at things to come, is that thoughts cross back. In my dreams the sensibility of the machine invades the periphery of my consciousness. Dark. Rigid. Cold. Alien. Evolution is at work here, but just what is evolving remains to be seen.
