A turn based, tactical combat football game with orcs, elves, dwarves, undead. (I know, I know... sounds crazy)

It is based on the Warhammer universe. You try to score a touchdown ( or ignore the ball and kill or maim the opposing team).

I will be playing undead. First game is versus dwarves.

My team lost to the Dwarves of  Magnus the Mad 1 to 2.

This week, I will be taking on the Halflings of Poncho Div. Poncho Div is a fairly well known coach in the Blood Bowl world with fairly well watched Twitch and Youtube channels. He has also been in various Blood Bowl cups. If not a top world player, he is definitely in the running. Last week, he embarrassed a Dark Elf team 1-0.

This is a MAJOR game for our undead, The Rott Rotersons. Even if we lose again and start making combacks, my money is on this guy winning the division. This guy will probably be in the playoffs, barring Nuffle's will.

Pre-game will be up in a few days along with highlights. I will also have Poncho_Div's Twitch and my Youtube so you can see the game, if interested once we negotiate the play times.

I might can still win.

The halflings are a fairly week team. I think Poncho is just having fun with this, not really wanting to go anywhere with it. After all, he does have teams in Worlds and in Gold.

The halflings themselves are very squishy and die pretty easy, though they have a skill that they can dodge and are hard to catch. The halflings also have two Treemen on the line. the trees are tough as nails, but my Mummies are tough, too, and at least do not decide to take up root in the middle of the pitch and be worthless the whole half of the game.

If I can play a very bashy, aggressive game and get lots of injuries and kills, I can win if I am careful and have good dice rolls.

One thing about the 'flings, though - the Treemen can throw halflings (with ball) into the endzone. Of course, sometimes this splats the halfling. But a threat nonetheless. Also, halfings have a master chef in some situations that can take away my precious rerolls.

No rock-throwing?  Tolkien directly said in the introduction that animals living in the Shire learned fast to disappear when a hobbit bent over.

(The Tolkien estate's lawyers are obviously not real competent, with the unauthorized editions out for years in this country before our time - and after the US got on their radar, letting any gaming companies take the term "Halfling" out of trademark.)

There was a missed opportunity in the movie of LOTOR; for fights, they had tanks in Aragorn Boromir and Gimli, Gandalf also armed for melee w/ magic sword and knew how to use it - or able to stand back and cast spells, Legolas also able to switch-hit w/ bow or sword, and four Hobbits in back who were really good at throwing rocks.

Don't laugh at that excrement. Yo, if you're a big tough orc up against Gimli's ax, and a midget in back throws a dirt-clod in your face, are you going to win or the dwarf?  -Huge advantage for the numbers problem they frequently faced, and comedy relief possibilities missed, to boot.

Well, they can use "halfling", but not hobbit. Gygax and crew, back when they were doing the rough drafts for 1st edition DnD had to remove the word "Hobbit" to avoid the ire of copyright lawyers.

Blood Bowl halflings are from the Warhammer universe, not Middle Earth. They are not know as rock throwers, but that does not keep the fans up in the stands from throwing rocks or the opponent from hiring a wizard to fireball my Wights and Ghouls if he has enough petty cash and inducements.

Still.

"Halfling" was a defendable Tolkien trademark until Gygax got way with it for too many years; not like the absolute right of copyright - you have to aggressively defend trademarks, and I'm sure it's not that the estate didn't care when they found out.  Media Law: I know a little.

Well, if they would have, we would have at least not had Kender....

I know, I know... Tasselhoff.  Yeah, he was a thing in the now obscure DragonLance novels a lot of nerds were into back in the day. New kids never heard of him nor kenders.

But, it would have saved some people from horrible 2E DragonLance campaigns that devolved into opposing dice rolls and swapping inventory sheets rather than take on the forces of Takhisis (Tiamat).

Okay...

How the playoffs will work 6 weeks from now has been announced.

Steel league has 4 divisions with 8 teams each and only the top 4 teams from each will make it to the elimination rounds. 16 teams total. Then there will be knockout rounds ie: Div A first place vs Div B first place, Div  A 2nd vs 2nd, and so on.

From there, the playoffs begin with 8 teams.

As long as I win some games, I think I have a shot at the elimination rounds.

Key being. "win"!

That would only have worked in some kind of Spartanesque "numbers count for nothing" terrain.  For most of the fights, the heroes were vastly outnumbered and had to use fluid skirmish tactics, or just plain run to survive.  If they had lined up neatly in a bunch like you say, most of the time they would have been surrounded and summarily slaughtered.  In fact that almost did happen in Moria, but then the Balrog showed up.  I've been rewatching my LotR DVDs.

The prevalence of anoxic environments rich in organic material, combined with the presence of nitrated compounds has led to an astonishing variety of underground organisms which live in the absence of oxygen and 'breathe' nitrate. Likewise, the scarcity of carbon in the environment has forced plants to economize on its use. Thus, all our efforts to return carbon to the biosphere will encourage the native life to proliferate. Conversely, the huge quantities of nitrate in the soil will be heaven to human farmers.
