Our host, for all their failings, doesn't nickel and dime us like that. We're not in much danger of getting the CFC level of bandwidth hit, either, so it's only a performance issue...

I'm not talking about the server side of the time and amount of data that needs to be downloaded, but on the side of the user. A typical forum thread, when mostly text, small avatars and a few pictures, has a (relatively) small amount of data, so the bandwidth hit for the user is minimal. This allows for faster load times and frequent page refreshes and new post loads. Plus, many mobile devices take some extra time to render lots of graphic items....

In the era of $10 plus per giga for data use or bandwidth throttling, doing things on a thread that is full of data intensive screenshots to reduce that load. Doing things like putting a number of the pics in spoiler boxes or expandable thumbnails will allow for a 'relatively' smaller data footprint per page access while letting the user pick if they want to better see and download something or not.

I had forgotten about these issues, until the last few days, when first sort of annoyed but only on the surface, not in my gut (which instinctually understood, but did not tell my head), with most of the pics set in spoiler tabs. Soon afterward, I looked here and noted how long all of those pics were taking and seeing them taking time to show. And the dawn broke, you could say.....

Is what I am saying a bit less muddy now???
