This is what happens with random maps and so many human players. Luck of the draw  :(  I'm expecting a nasty surprise every turn I play ...

So are we playing on or ... ?  Trouble is if we re-start we're likely to get something very similar next time round too. But on the other hand this was Jeroen's game so I'd be totally fine with a re-start. There was nothing great about my start location (I ... er ... may have mentioned this, ahem). The only thing that could possibly have made it worse is one of you guys turning up with a battle ogre   ;lol

I think there wouldn't have been a problem if lal got eliminated, he'd probably just get an escape pod to start over.

His logic was the same. But who said anything about early elimination? You put a tight noose on the last remaining base or two and only break the neck when it's too late for respawn anyway. I think it's hard-coded at 2200, and even if it's not, restart at 2200 makes you as important to global events as the AI. I wonder how you can make an exciting video out of this. ;)

I was hoping you might be a bit more diplomatically willing than that (Lal's votes, Morgan's cash?); but I could always destroy my own last base and be respawned. I don't think you can effectively trap a faction.

I am OK with a re-roll but I am not really interested in a custom-made map. I know Kirov was just trying to be nice about it (and probably I was not as nice about it in return :-[) but I really like the not knowing and the suspense. I mean, I honestly don't mind small things (like nobody having food, no worries there, Misotu :) ) but I don't really want to know doom is right around the corner. I guess in my ideal world even if Kirov had perma-eliminated me, I wouldn't even have named him as the offender and let everybody go down the paranoia drain about who eliminated the Peacekeepers for the next hundreds of years :D

But I think if I am perhaps a little nicer to Kirov and he remains his polite self we could do a re-roll with all the same settings? I think as long as we understand that rolling over me with a battle ogre is not foul play in my eyes  ;lal;

Let's re-roll. You know, J and E, I kinda like your no-matter-what enthusiasm. Only faintly I can relate to it, but fair enough, whatever rocks your boat and at least you want to play. Just bear in mind that for people who clocked a certain amount of SMAC hours, fighting one-sided wars will be unsatisfying whatever side they're on. The way I see it, 'unfair' scenarios are essentially those which generate predictable results. If the underdog wins, the situation was not that unbalanced in the first place. But I'm afraid SMAC is no sports movie from the '80s and the stronger guy usually gets the girl. An eradicated faction, even respawned in 2120, would be no match to those who grew unchecked.

I wanted to reload also as I discovered the Monsoon Jungle to the South. Barring other ogres and with Lal subdued, the Jungle would soon be yellow. And I don't know how much you'd enjoy ganging up on a Morgan with half of the global population, I sure as hell wouldn't enjoy playing him. Just queue colony pods/formers/crawlers for 100 turns and then go for a few away matches.

Well, but I have no problem with being an underdog myself, so who knows, maybe we're all just masochists.

Enough of this rambling;  Jeroen, you had all the starting conditions, let's go with the same.

Mart, thanks for your interest and proposal, but as you can see, second 'Nam is the name of the game.

Fine by me. If I get a 2 food 1 min square I'm already up  :)

PS   I can't remember now, but if we didn't use a huge map then perhaps it might be an idea ...

OK, I have re-rolled the game and once again the Gaians are first... what is it about that Deirdre!

I read your huge map suggestion after making the game, Misotu, so I am afraid it's still a 'larger'.

@Kirov I think Eadee and I just have a slightly larger roleplay-esque "against all the odds" fever. I do think you get a bit of an upshot (extra pods and formers) if you get eliminated early on. But seeing as you had the juuuuungle  ::) glad we re-rolled ;)

Jeroen I don't know how you do it. I think it may actually be worse ...   ;lol  Not a single 2 food square, no river, no specials ... nothing.

And the pod didn't give me anything either. On the up-side, it didn't actually attack me  :D

I just set the game up as normal... open terranx.exe, summon the dark spirits, make random map...

Ah well. It can't just be me.

What I expect is an ogre first and cloning second. Anything less and I'm disappointed.

->  :danc:

I'm fine with the reroll.
Had to load the old file though to look up the faction customisations I made.
