Retro Gaming
« on: December 17, 2014, 12:25:06 AM »
I'm pretty into retro games. I figure there must be some other people who feel the same way and aren't completely into the PC Master Race.
Let's talk about that!
Retro could mean anything before the 7th Console Generation.
I'll try and start the conversation.
Well, my personal favorite console is probably the most modern thing you could call retro. The Sega Dreamcast. It was the first  console to include a modem. Also, the memory card doubled as a handheld significantly less powerful than the GameBoy. My favorite game on it is Sonic Adventure. Go figure.
It has quite a cult following still. Infact, here is a quote for a game being released for it by an independent developer in 2015.
“Ameba tells the story of a veteran policeman and his obsessive quest to find the truth about some cases he is pretty sure were closed under false pretenses. He is the only one who has seen the truth, and his mission is to uncover it to bring justice once and for all. It will be set on nowadays Spain, but it might have some flashbacks to the past.”

Anyone else ever own it?

Hmm. I might as well have just titled this
9/9/99 - The Ultimate Gaming System
Dreamcast master race!

I've got a functioning first-generation Nintendo in my bedroom - and a couple of Pong sets here in my office...

Ehh, personally I'm more of a Genesis person. But that's a different generation.
Although I can almost confirm you have Super Mario Bros.

I'd have to root around - it's actually Buster's Daddy's Nintendo, and a friend has most of the game cartridges, and I haven't laid eyes on most of the games in 20 years or so.

I did win at Mike Tyson's Punch-Out; I actually have a win I videotaped, somewhere.

There was an off-brand fantasy game, something about a tree, that I was very fond of, and a war game, I think the name was Desert Fox...

I have to ask, who is Buster?

Yeah. ;lol

No consoles at my place. Oldest game I can remember was a UFO shooter on a Commodore 64. It had to be loaded by tape. ???

The sea is everything. It covers seven-tenths of the globe. Its breath is pure and healthy. It is an immense desert where a man is never alone, for he can feel life quivering all about him. The sea is only a receptacle for all the prodigious, supernatural things that exist inside it; it is only movement and love; it is the living infinite.
~Jules Verne ’20,000 Leagues Under The Sea’, Datalinks
