Road Rate and Magtubes
« on: March 23, 2014, 11:45:59 AM »
The first entry under #RULES is the Movement Rate Along Roads, which 3 is by default. On my huge maps, with the Research Rate set at 50% and Techstag on, an empire can become large before Monopole Magnets is researched, giving Magtubes.
Until now, I never thought of playing with the Road Rate; I'm considering making it 5 (Infantry 5, Speeders 10, Hovertanks 15).
Also, I'm wondering something about the Magtube Movement Rate, which is coded as unlimited: Could an entry be added to #RULES, so a value of zero would mean unlimited, but any other positive value would be as set? If I could do this, I would set it at 10 (Infantry 10, Speeders 20, Hovertanks 30), call it a Highway, and edit the artwork accordingly.

Sounds like something to ask to Yitzi.

Because of how it's set up, and the sheer prevalence of the "road speed" variable, giving magtubes a nonzero cost would be fairly difficult.  It could be done, but it would not surprise me if it came out to be about as much as everything I've done so far put together.  So once I start taking requests, if there's really high demand I could do it, but other things will probably take priority due to being a lot easier.

That makes sense.
Bumping the road rate to 5, or even 6, will put off the "need" for magtubes for a good while.
Thanks for looking.

You might somewhat limit initial road 'speed' by putting 'hardwired' designs in the #UNITS list of the alphax file. With the 'slow unit' ability.

Important? Yes. Critical? Absolutely! I would go so far as to say that superconducting fiber alone makes our present economy possible.
