Largest ever MP game that actually finished?
« on: August 19, 2013, 04:00:05 AM »
As the topic says.

I am wondering if anyone back in the heyday of SMAX ever had a 7 person game go to a victory.

I, personally never did AC MP, but the largest MP 4x game to completion was a 13 player Civ 4 game I lucked up on.

I used to play Peter Langston's Empire (in the 1980s on a UNIX box), and we would regularly have 500 player multiplayer games reach a stable victory condition.  Of course, what constitutes a victory would be highly questionable once the high megaton nukes started coming out.  It is more like, who has the most remnants of civilization remaining at that point.

Unfortunately I got so few really finished that they probably were not that long...:(

Yeah.. that is the curse of these types of games. I would say only 10 percent of any 4x I have been in finishes.

I have been pleasantly surprised with the WMS crew. They post turns pretty regular.

I have found that very few games that are not 1-vs-1 games ever finish.  So what I now preference are 1-vs-1 games where each player controls multiple factions.  This gives the richness of a multi-player game, but with only one file exchange per turn, and with very high likelihood of finishing.

Well, it would give you more to do. Sometimes with the arena type PBEMs that are not 1v1, I am cranking up AC for maybe 1 minute of stuff. I am also waiting a bit. Speaking of which, T_ras has a LMS turn up.

What do I care for your suffering? Pain, even agony, is no more than information before the senses, data fed to the computer of the mind. The lesson is simple: you have received the information, now act on it. Take control of the input and you shall become master of the output.
