Clean re-install advice

Long story short........I'm in the process of a clean re-install of Windows and everything else. Vis a vis SMAC, would I be better off re-installing from my original CD and then applying one of the excellent patches available from here, or would it be simpler/easier/better to just buy it again from GOG?

I don't have an original CD.  I bought the game twice on CD in the past, and snapped it in half twice.  I'm using a GOG binary.  It works.  So it is not possible for you to be "better off" with an original CD.

Anger issues aside (), I'd say its easier to get the GOG patch. And if you feel the need, apply the mods to your hearts content.
