Building bases on sensor arrays
« on: November 07, 2012, 12:10:39 AM »
The rules for multiplayer games allow this but it seems to be a bug. Presumably the construction of a base should obliterate an existing sensor array. When I play LAN games we banned this as a house rule. Is there a particular reason why it is allowed?

To me this not feel like cheating.  You are trading expansion quickness for more security in your bases, and specially if those are some of your first cities, when a terraform/turn is more expensive, resource wise.

Anyway, house rules are house rules, so you can come with anything in your mind.

This gets me thinking... is it possible to get a terraformer to work in a sensor, only to build a colony the following turn, keeping the sensor bonus?

No.  If the sensor is not finished before the colony is founded, nothing, even if it was going to finish the same turn.  I've made that mistake before.  Did I understand the question right?

People can decide on any given game what they will or will not allow.  I cannot ever recall a game where someone wanted to ban sensors under bases, but if you can always suggest it for any game you are involved in.

I personally see no problem with sensors under bases, if someone has the patience to wait for the sensor to be built.  They give up expansion speed for a bit of security.
