Diablo II Resurrected.
« on: August 17, 2021, 06:46:07 PM »
Beta early impressions:

Weird to play it in wide screen but it feels right at home at the same time.

Can't tell if lag or graphical oddities due to the conversion magic going on in the background, but there's a noticeable amount of rubber banding at times.

There seems to be contrast issues in areas in the new version.  I never had trouble identifying where arrows were coming from in the original game (and switched back to classic graphics to make sure my eyes just haven't faded in the interim)

Auto gold pickup is nice.

Shared stash is fantastic.

weird things not working yet:  Chat/lobby for instance.  Only able to chat with party.

No hardcore in beta :(  (or maybe they moved the button for that, can't tell)

Open Beta starts this weekend.

Anyone interested in making some AC2 games?

Controller support/playing the beta on the PS4 is really neat, but comes with it's own set of strengths/weaknesses.

I think some builds are going to be much easier to play on a console (pretty much any melee based character, but I actually look forward to trying a melee assassin on console as it was always clunky to run on PC) while others might be nigh impossible (multishot bowazon) as you can't really target a space with the controller to determine the spread.  I was playing a javezon, and like to throw 'in front' of a group with my poison javelin to lead groups into the cloud, and couldn't on playstation as it would just default to the nearest mob.  Not breaking, but it did hamper progression a bit.  Similarly, trying to target the mobs in the back resurrecting things is nigh impossible on console for ranged characters.

I will say switching between the console and the computer based versions was nice to carry over the progression, but it broke my key and/or controller bindings each time, and I'd have to reset that when playing on the new system.

The boys and I attempted to set up a LAN party, but TCP/IP is being disabled for Diablo II Resurrected I learned so we all had to sign in online.

Older laptop technically SHOULD scrape by on minimum specs was able to get into a game 1/10 tries.  While it could play the game on legacy graphics, the main menu and cinematics is the updated graphics only so unfortunately couldn't add Talia.  I might fix that...I have an old tower that probably could get it going with a graphics card.

Several laptops well over minimum specs had graphical issues, turning off anti aliasing solved most.

Universally everything was too dark on the updated graphics, and we all had to turn gamma up all the way.  Switching to old graphics on all of them worked as well instead, so it's definitely the new graphics simply being too dark.

Didn't think about it, but should have tried duping to see if it's still there.
