Actually, they'd wanna know about the recent releases of the Yitzi and kyrub patches, too, and that stuff drives much more traffic than scenarios, so we can safely assume much more interest...

He doesn't moderate in SMACX - I looked.

I'd just like to get the word out - we get mentioned there; (I can pick up a word here and there auf Deutsch to productively look around) and I know without asking that we've got multiple Euros who can get by en allemand, and I'd like that in tedesco/en alemán capacity known...

Well, for what it's worth, I know enough German to know I'm worthless at it. :P

If that German line is as much hilarious as the Dutch one, you better stop using Google translate. ;lol

(I would have thought thought an educated [Flemm] would succeed...)

Actually, it is way easier to me to make myself understood in Switzerland then in Germany. Most people are multi-linguistic there and don't mind having mixed-language sentences/conversations.

What's so funny?  That's an okay translation you give - I meant "manage".  I misspelled Flem or should have said Fleming or something?

I know I'm probably looking stupid whenever I use GT -I've been told, and Boddisey had to moderate a bunch of my Google Translate French to spare me embarrassment recently- but I can't even get by en français or Latine, which I studied long ago.  We're international, and I have to just take the hit from time to time.

Mmm, on further reflection, "educated" should be replaced with "trained", and "succeed" by "manage". So the meaning/translation goes more in the realm of manual labor.
"Fleming" would indeed be better. Especially when using a translator tool.

Ah.  See my edit while you were posting.

I did say educated.  Educated people are more likely to be more multi-lingual and more fluent.

I can't begin to do anything about cultural idiom my ugly American self knows nothing about.

There's a distinction. I wasn't mocking YOUR multi-linguistic capabilities, but Google Translate results. ;cute

I'm proud to say that I picked out enough known words and cognates from that to have understood the gist of all but all but the last phrase before running it through GT to be sure.

For educational purposes and a laugh, here's what I puzzled out before checking in Google Translate:

"I can [unknown] speak and write in German. [something] my communication is not good.  :(  And I have not [I didn't know the words for study or year, so the rest a blank - something for 10 something.]"

English is DEFINITELY a Teutonic language, not mangled French, as some joke.

Literally translated, it would sound a bit funny. Liberally translated, Nikolai writes "I can somewhat speak and write in German. But my knowledge isn't that good. :( And I haven't used it in 10 years." ???

I'm proud of getting the gist at all - never studied German.  I AM mostly German, but just picked up the odd (easy, common) word from being widely read - and again, cognates once you're used to the spelling style, and the grammar is a lot closer than most languages.

"Ik ben er trots op om de essentie te snappen - heb nooit Duits geleerd. Ik BEN grotendeels van Duitse afkomst, maar pikte eenvoudigweg hier en daar een woord op door veel te lezen - en, opnieuw, begrijpen eenmaal je aan de stijl gewend bent, en de grammatica komt meer overeen dan de meeste talen."

Dutch or fake gibberish?

I'm sure it ain't German, and I'll need some time if you want me to try to puzzle it out and humiliate myself trying to translate what I can.  I've picked up less of the other Teutonic languages...

If it is gibberish, that's because of your weird sentence structure. ;cute
it's a Dutch translation.

He's a talk-show host from the American Midwest, who used to throw a lot of pencils over his shoulder through the fake window behind the desk to a fake breaking glass sound.

It's a line he would trot out when he had the opportunity to say that he spoke German.

I believe I've puzzled out the literal meaning of "Bleistift".  Blaze (mark) stiff(ended), or more liberally, marker in a supporting structure, i.e., pencil lead in wood, or just pencil.  I understand that much of German is compounded in similar ways, if often less subtly.

Am I completely wrong here?
