From Steam:

Image removed out of respect for Maniac.  Apologies to Maniac.

I'm glad that Maniac is on the beta tester list.

;b;  Ditto.

Impressed that I know half those guys.

Just pinged Maniac on Skype...

[6:08:00 PM] bustersuncle: Dale has outed you as in the BE beta.  http://alphacentauri2.info/index.php?topic=8714.new#new (http://alphacentauri2.info/index.php?topic=8714.new#new)

I'm glad that Maniac is on the beta tester list.

He hasn't played in over 2 weeks.  For a beta tester, that's a VERY bad sign!

He's racked up the second-most time, so maybe he was at it for a while...

Not quite.  The top section shows who's playing now, the middle section shows who's played in the last 2 weeks (last week hours / total hours) and the bottom section shows who hasn't played in the last 2 weeks (total hours).

So he's quite a way off the top runners.

I'm saying it isn't proof he didn't like it - evidence, certainly, not proof.

Of course if he HAD liked it and had a couple months, he'd have over four times the hours on, depending on RL time constraints, so yeah; not a good sign, but we can't be sure until the NDA's expire and/or we see BE for ourselves...

All said. most of those names are familiar to the "regulars."  Friwiborn is Nikolai.

Colonel Mustard...??? Sid Himself?

I didn't know there was a public list of beta participants on Steam.

There is no public beta tester list. This is just Dale being an ass and showing his friends list that he accumulated over the years due to his past beta testing experience. That friends list just got a little shorter of course.

Hey buddy.  I assume you can't say anything else?  Y'know, about a game you've tried?

The official company line when questioned about being a tester is "sorry, I cannot discuss it". Unlike Dale I do not wish to burn my bridges with Firaxis, so I'll stick to that company line. :D ;)

Or in other words "Game? What game?"

I hear you.

Or rather, I don't.  I'm hard of hearing.  What?

Also?  Be nice. ;)  Please.

Don't blame me because 2K forgot to mark the user list private.  Not my problem.

BTW, I didn't "burn my bridges with Firaxis".  2K saw my plans as competitive and so as not to cause problems for Firaxis I pulled out.

You deliberately chose to post that picture and violate beta testers' privacy.

Don't worry, if they're not posting raving reviews on their own accord, I certainly don't give enough of a [poop] to try and contact them.

Sorry, when you agreed to the Steam User Agreement you signed away all rights to privacy.  Besides, an internet handle is not enough to breach privacy.

Here we go... They went through this at Triumph where I was lurking. Except there it was jealousy and the old hardcore vs casual hatred arguments.

Anyone else find the NDA stuff and forum stuff that goes on in betas kind of silly?

Dale did not violate anything by posting a portion of his UI on Steam. Dale has not signed anything, either. Hints of self importance, regardless, I appreciate Dale letting us know beta exists and an insight into this. That was a community service.

Maniac has not violated anything. Nor do I think he should be upset. Although I do strongly think Firaxis should PAY Maniac and others if they expect them to do QA work and consulting work as an experienced modder and knowledge base on this genre. If not a decent figure, at least enough for a few beers.

A lot would be solved just by letting the beta testers post content after the game gets to a certain point. It has worked for other games and is good for marketing and good for a better game. There are some things the hardcores will not catch that other gamers would.

Dale and Maniac alike have earned any self-importance they may, or may not, feel as longtime major heavy d00dz in the community.  Just sayin'.
