Title: Slitherine Forums
Post by: Buster's Uncle on May 14, 2014, 04:17:58 PM
I'm exchanging PMs (ugh) with someone this morning about a content-creation project he's planning that has a major
promotional aspect  (;b; ;b; ;b; ;b; ;b;).

He made this aside:

BTW, you have a Pandora sub flora? You should go promote AC2 on Slitherine's forum. They want to make their vision of an Alien Crossfire Expac. They could use a little nudging over there.

He followed up:
Quote
You will need content though if you go to Slitherine. Although you have the adveantage that the fan base crosses over.

Unfortunately... those guys are not builder fans. They pushed for a Miriam/ AoW3 very aggressive style.

Do we have any Slitherine members here?

Actually, those guys are kind of being screwed. The way games are marketed now for indies  is Youtube. The only LPs/AARs I see for Pandora is initial impression videos. I see no follow ups or epic series like you see with Civ 5 or even Europa Univresalis.

Age of Wonders 3, as our mysterious PM bugger of the Uncle made is a different case. Copies were distributed intentionally to pre-retail to various  YT pundits like TotalBiscuit (WoW radio alumni) and Quill18 (Civ Fanatics) in beta for free and Triumph incorporated this in lieu of serious marketing and made bank. Dutch dev Triumph walked all the way to the bank as that went viral.  But, this will be nothing compared to the muscle of Firaxis/ Take Two and Beyond Earth.

Still, I think that Pandora is a decent title and may be more of SMAX minus the builder game which, like the mysterious PMer put,  may be off-setting.

I am ;)
And I'm going to tell them about this place, there seem to be quite a bunch of SMAC fanatics out there…

Okydoke.  Maybe post about your French translation project, to go in with content?  As long as it still involves a link to here...  And maybe mention there's a Pandora subforum, too...

meh..

I had just logged on that day because I wanted to use the green Cobra avatar that BU made for me for these forums on a YouTube channel. I thought it was a matter of just being cool to ask before I used it. But, having worked all night the night before 12 hours, I began drinking Hienekins. Not only did I not get the work done I wanted to do with editing stuff and posting my usual anarchist rants in other places, but I fell asleep shortly afterwards and was almost late to work that night.

BU DOES NOT LIKE PMs. BU likes content, first and foremost. Particularly if it is concise and well written. But, I had a valid reason to do so. If I was to say I was putting up videos, there may be a very few who would want to see it. I did not want to announce anything on a forum because I get really busy sometimes and I think it sucks to announce things then drop things or not deliver. I have done so in the past, and I want to avoid such things in the future.

The Slitherine thing was just an aside and suggestion. You all know how BU gets excited when it comes to forum stuff.

The "mysterious PMer" stuff is from BU PM disdain.

Actually, I was using your idea while protecting your privacy because I didn't ask first. ;)  Vegas rule.

I didn't get that about the avatar - of course you may.  I merely altered someone else's work, and couldn't act too proprietary even if I didn't like your YouTube project, which I do.

Has anyone spoken up on Slitherine about AC2?  Any reaction?

Well, I've been a bit busy (*liar*), but I won't allow myself to sleep tonight before I've written a little something on Slitherine forums to link to my translation project, and to the AC2 community.

Hey, you grew a beard?
Looks good on you ;)

Had it all along - just felt like switching to the self-portrait version I did last year...

Done and done, AC2 forums just took one more step towards Chiron full domination!

I'm going to report here eventual feedback about AC2…

For the curious type, here is the link to a sample of my PR legendary skills:

Just checked: took me three weeks from "I'll do it!" to "I've done it!"…
Not bad considering my quasi non-existent attention span ;)

I like that post, and note that it's lived 1.5 hours now and already gotten 9 views.  Pandora boards don't look insanely busy, so not bad.  Currently still topped.

This is the membership stepping up and taking responsibility for their forum, and I'm all for that.

They are an insanely small indie dev. Their board is probably only twice the size of AC2.
