Hello. I have the original SMAC and I would like to play using an IP. I try connecting via the game and it says it cant find anyone. Will someone play multilayer with me and help me set it up?

Hi Jessica. Most players prefer PBEM, so they can play when they have time.
I would suggest you to state in the title you are looking for an IP game and try also in FB:

I'd give an IP game a go with you, though I have smax installed. Would I need to reinstall just smac or are the smac(x) vs smac vanilla versions compatible ?

I have always found that 4x games like this do not lend itself well to IP.

I DID get into some Civ 4 on gamespy years back. 70 percent quit, but you got some that stayed. But that was before all these "clans" started popping up. Not a big fan of the unwarranted self importance that exists in clans. Fortunately, SMAX is too old to have clans, lol.

Thing is, with the IP games, they go on for hours. Lord, I think I was a zombie at work playing 12 hours straight. I would shudder at something like Alpha Centauri over IP with limited speed settings :)

Good luck, though. An all night gaming session is good for the soul sometimes.

It's usually more sensible to just IP the first 40-50 years and then go PBEM from there imo. Gets all those quick turns out of the way and gets you into the meatier thinking part quicker.
