Title: Sci-Fi Heroines' Pictures for Faction Leaders
Post by: gwillybj on March 30, 2013, 08:51:11 PM
Here's a little fun thing to do. I'm trying to come up with a short list of Science Fiction heroines from the 1990s-ish till now. I want to use their headshots as leader portraits. Not for the given factions, definitely not for factions based on their characters, just simply for their faces. I thought of a few this afternoon; the list should give an idea what I have in mind:

Sigourney Weaver (Ellen Ripley)
Linda Hamilton (Sarah Connor)
Amanda Tapping (Samantha Carter)
Milla Jovovich (Alice)
Kate Beckinsale (Selene)
Saoirse Ronan (Hanna)

You're going to do the art yourself?

Yes. I use Paint Shop Pro v3. It pastes bmps, gifs, & jpgs of any resolution and color depth into SMAC's 256-color pcxs and applies the palette very well. I don't bother with scan lines, I like to see the pictures clearly.

Also, I'm looking for just names. Half the fun is searching for suitable pictures.

I'll look forward to seeing your results.

Shouldn't this be in Modding?  I can move it if you like.

Came here to demand Ripley, see she's #1 on the list.  Bonus points if you do a #3 version.

If anyone can think of a few more to add, I'd like to come up with at least 7 or 14.

(I forgot to save the gifs non-transparent for the first four. That's why Lara has white spots.)

Bah... I wish pcxs could be posted directly, then there wouldn't be white spots in my gifs. The white spots are not in the pcxs. But you see what I have. They're grainy enough to look like transmissions without needing scan lines.

No, you have to at LEAST have ripley from Aliens.

Just like Sarah Connor from Terminator, Ellen Ripley becomes a heroine in the second film, not a victim.

As for others, why don't we lift the time limit?

One would be remiss without a nod to Princess Leia.
Scully from Xfiles comes to mind.
Jamie Summers, aka the Bionic Woman
Uhura of Trek fame.  (though there's a new relaunch)
Let's throw a kink in and toss out Dr Zira of planet of the apes.  (again, relaunch...ugh)
Wilma Deering of Buck Rodgers fame, perhaps the first female not to be a love interest plot device.
Delenn from Babylon 5...

I could probably go on.

For recent ones...

Starbuck of the Battlestar Galactica relaunch comes to mind.
Leelu or however you spell it from the 5th element.
The Avatar chick, though I still don't know why dances with aliens was such a popular movie.

I'd say "survivor" rather than "victim."  (Well, OK, Sarah Connor initially was a lot more "victim.")

How about Maren Jensen, Athena of the original Battlestar Galactica?  Oh, damn, OP said since the 90s.  Tricia Helfer, Number Six from nBSG.  Grace Park from same.  Claudia Christian, Cmdr Ivanova, from B5.  Eliza Dushku, Echo from Dollhouse.  Julie Benz, Stephanie Powell from No Ordinary Family.  Alessandra Torresani (Zoe Graystone) and Polly Walker (Clarice Willow) from Caprica.  Torri Higginson (Dr. Elizabeth Weir) and Rachel Lutrell (Teyla) of Stargate Atlantis.  Sean Young, Rachael from Blade Runner - well, not a heroine, but with the hairdo has an interesting look (also prior to cutoff unless you count re-releases).
