Title: I'm new, Any noob games?
Post by: Paddy Junior on October 29, 2012, 12:02:07 AM
Hi, i've been playing Alpha Centauri for years but im not excellent at the game but i do love it, I'd love to play against people who won't massacre me and possibly give me a chance to build a decent civilisation and be friendly neighbours :) Let me know if anyone is interested in showing me the ropes in multiplayer and generally just have a good time!

A friendly training game!  Good idea.  People, let's invent the friendly train game and hook this young scots gentleman up.  I can tell he's cool - prob'ly verra hansome, too.

Welcome to AC2, Paddy.  How did you find us?

Hey thanks for replying guys! Yes i am very handsome and VERY scottish lol. A training game would be awesome might be a bit awkward with time differences, its 9am here just now and i'm just off to bed after my nightshift, im on holiday now though for 2 weeks so im desperate to get playing and learn some more advanced techniques on SMAC. I think an IP game would be better but i have no idea how to even set one up :( get back to me guys, thanks again!

Aw cool, so your Martin? Thanks for sending the link, so glad to have found a place where people still play and discuss SMAC, it's good to see the forums so active aswell, very impressed. Can't imagine it'll be too long before i'm being massacred by a faction in retaliation to me infiltrating their datalinks with a probe team and framing someone else. lol cant wait!

Hey, sorry just 1 last thing, not sure if i'm even aloud to talk about this but i actually downloaded this game so will that make a difference? Also i was looking at some of the things you guys were talking about, i'm guessin you can manipulate this game A LOT by messing around with .txt files etc? That sounds really interesting, also the info on how to start an IP game looks really awkward, however i do have plenty of time so i'll learn these things, with a little help obviously ;)

let's take it one step at a time.
it is very important that all players in the IP game have the same version of the game (and also the same text files)
let's find out what version of SMAC you have on your computer. for this you should open SMAC (terran.exe) and start a single-player game and press CTRL-F4. a pop-up will appear with the game version.
