Most peculiar turn. All my units seemed to have been played already. No production whatsoever either.

Can one explain this to me?

A bug?
Something Yitzi could take a look at?

------
I loaded save for Hive, 2102 and everything seems ok.
How about you restart the terranx.exe and load the turn once more?

Did you see a popup I opened my turn twice, Bodissey? I forgot my password and pressed 'escape' to get out of the game to look it up here, but appearantly the game counts that as an attempt to play a save.

There is something off with the game. One of my bases (and only one) experiences -1 Support, i.e. the second unit costs maintenance. Weird.

Nope. Didn't even had a wrong password+enter sequence this turn. Why? Does the game give a multiple load warning?

The save was downloaded twice though. But the second save to my hard drive was never opened.

Post by: Kirov on April 01, 2015, 04:47:52 PM
As once a very respectable player (CEO Aaron) said, "the colony pod is the best unit in the game". I try to hit 6 bases ASAP and as soon as I get around to quell the first wave of B-drones, I churn out more and more.
Title: Re: Average World - TTT
Post by: Geo on April 01, 2015, 05:18:04 PM
Don't tell me you sent out colony pods unescorted.
Title: Re: Average World - TTT
Post by: Kirov on April 01, 2015, 05:27:38 PM
I'm afraid I did. Chances of losing one do not outweigh the lag due to waiting for escort. Of course, my pods do not have to travel far as I keep my bases as tight as reasonable possible, 2-3 tiles apart. I have 5 bases now and 1 last colony pod will soon be completed. There are lower chances for worms close to your bases, so you're good provided you're not extremely unlucky.

You mean like you've just made a mistake or is it something more general, like when you mentioned the population? MP openings are a bit different than single player (i.e. you have to be much more time-conscious and cost-effective). If you have any questions about standard to-dos, don't hesitate to shoot.

Simply made a smallish production mistake this time.

Geo, one more thing. As Morgan, you'd want to keep tight spacing of your bases. This has numerous advantages like faster expansion (without escorts), higher efficiency etc., while the supposed drawback in the form of tile overlap is actually negligible, especially for Morgan.

For that matter, I keep my bases quite tight with all factions except Lal.

Well, you mentioned pop issues, so I just wanted to touch on the issue of spread. Claiming beneficial areas is good, but usually the best way to do it is to steamroll in that general direction, i.e. making base after base instead of sending one odd CP. But you know, just my 2 energy credits. Or maybe Morgan TV is just so good that people don't get kinky anymore. ;)

You might want to do the following trick: instead of choosing directly "Load Multiplayer Game" to open your turn you can first try to open the game file with "Multiplayer Scenario". You will receive an error message and then you can try opening the file with "Load Multiplayer Game". The faction graphics will be the proper ones. That's the way I get them though.

You sure you don't want to use a simple tool and get rid of the problem altogether? Iniswap is especially useful when yu have multiple PBEM games. But I think it's worth setting up even for one, as afterwards you simply launch SMAC always with correct settings.

It sounds like this is standard faction set (as in vanila SMAC)
Each time you start a game where you set standard or crossfire set, these factions are adjusted in ini file. So you may lost your "average world" set.
Also, if you rename the file by mistake, the ini file gets recreated, but terranx.exe defaults to the new set, starting with Cycon.

You didn't have enough crawlers to snatch the VW from under his nose?

Actually, I didn't want to snatch it from under yours. I figured you'd hold that against me and I certainly don't need you as my enemy, especially at this moment. You see, it came to my attention that there are certain factions on the Planet (and some of them rhyme with "fusion drive") which elected to push for weaponry and vehicle chassis solutions before they fully automatized their industrial capacities. In my experience, this means only one thing: winter is coming. Brace yourself.

Quote
I must have done something wrong on my .ini file. Kirov is looking Hivelike, and Bodissey preaches.

This is the entire problem in this issue. SMAC enters new factions to .ini as it starts/loads a game, but this does not apply to your MP games, which use the faction setting from the last SP game you played. This will keep messing with your .ini no matter what you do manually. So you either need to do what Bodi said, resort to Iniswap, keep a separate copy for this game or just live with it.

Another work-around for the MP faction graphics bug is to start a new game with the same factions in the same order, save, exit to menu and start the MP game - then always load the save before your turn.  I can confirm that this works; it's what I do.

Let us already hold a minute of silence for those innocent people who will have to perish just because their crooked leaders in their madness chose to build Projects we don't allow. They will always have been remembered! The people, not the leaders. :'(

The Planetary Governor Race is on.
Incumbents: Bodissey of the Hive (37 votes) and Kirov of the Angels (39 votes).
Votes remaining: Gaians 13 - University 16 - Spartans 14 - Peacekeepers 20 - Morgan 20
80 votes required to win in theory.
Votes cast:
Bodissey: Hive  37 + Deirdre 13 + Peacekeepers 20 totaling 70
Kirov: Spartans 14 totaling 14
Abstain University 16
Left to be cast Morgan 20 and Kirov 39

I apologize in advance if this is not accurate for I forgot to take a snapshot of the governor race. This is my own recollection of the race as I saw it. Forgive me if it's not a true account.

I think this comes from the fact that right now base energy outputs are too low while there are already a lot of commerce techs in game. Your multiplier in the numerator is increased by one and then divided by many many commerce techs in game (I believe at least most factions have IE and IA now). Pacts, the Global Pact and just more energy per base should in theory increase your bonus.

And of course, the Planetary Governor just gets +1 at the end of the day, so consider yourself lucky if you're on par with him.

Governor Bodissey, trust me that I pay a lot of attention to infiltration/probing and I really just wanted to drive a point home that if you probe me, you'd better not get caught. At first I didn't want to go beyond inflicting considerable damage (demolishing installations etc.). However, shortly after that I realised that with you going for AP so quickly (good work as the Hive, BTW), we'd never have a stable border (4 tiles apart) and any conflict could only deteriorate into total war... I feel like we're in Mad Max 3's Thunderdome. We're just too close.

Just wondering, but with which drone rules code (in alphax.txt) are you guys playing?

I forgot to address that - I have 0 and I believe Bodi has, too. It seems to have hurt you a lot if you had 8.

I don't see any tiles marked for submersion at a glance?
How many meters?

None yet, but I got like 5 fungal pops this turn. At this rate, submersion will be imminent soon.

You're not the only ones with fungal pops. :-[
My formers can barely keep up. :-\

BTW, sorry for the reload - yet again I clicked 'zoom and erase' for fungus pop message.

The Hive has refused to live anymore in such a degraded environment.

What does it mean, Bodi?

I opened my turn and well, 1) the seas will rise by 266m (that's almost 873 feet for you guys overseas) within 20 years, and 2) the Hive is no more, his minions slaughtered by both external and internal forces. I've always known that we are not so different, Bodi and I.

Anyhow, Geo, would you and how would you like to proceed?

Heh. There's not even a snowflake's chance in hell I'll overtake you in power. But if you like to continue to built up your faction and achieve some other kind of victory, I'll play my turns and do the Morgan stuff. ;morganercise

Well, a game really should be fun for everyone involved so if you don't get any thrills, we can just as well call it off. I can go either way and play it peacefully or not so much. On the one hand, I hate picking fights with factions which haven't wronged me. I strongly believe in Justice, not unlike the Man of Steel himself. On the other hand - do you know this saying "when you've got a hammer in your hand, all problems seem to look like nails"? Well, I have 32 hammers.  :(

Another con is that soon we'll largely have to focus on climate change issues.

32 needlejets, ready to strike?

And I bet you never had to mitigate your pollution output in a game before, or even *gasp* stall expansion and try to make the gameworld a better place. :P

My thrills in games is usually not about the winning, so I can go on and snag something away here and there before it gets in your clutches. ;cute

Geo, I reloaded the turn 3 times for funny reasons - the game can't decide when to show messages about combats and fungal pops, so at first opening you get the former and then at the second one (after you save) you get the latter. The third opening gives no info so I had to go back and check where mind worms are (I got to kill entire hordes this turn).

Can you pay attention and tell me how many reload warnings you got? I'm curious about one thing.

Also, won't you miss our Chairman? I know I already do.

I didn't check if you have EE but I can give it to you for free to avoid the flooding. I'll be lucky if I lose no base.

Not a single reload warning.
I of course regret his 'demise'. I was on the verge of infiltrating him. :(
I can avoid flooding with pressure domes. Sofar only one base sits on dangerous terrain.

More Deluge, I'm afraid. The dialog said 600m in 20 years, although some <600m tiles are interestingly not endangered. Still, we're playing 'raise the terrain' here for a while.

Just FYI to the CMN, we moved with Geo to email exchange.

A quaint volcano has erupted. I don't get it, just a little gassing here and there and now so much fuss all of a sudden.
