Title: Nothing appears in menus

So I'm moving to a new computer, installed SMAC and SMAX from the original CDs, then transferred over the patches I use, started the game up on the new computer, and nothing appears in the menus.

So I'm sure I did something very obviously wrong, and wondered if the smarter folks in the community would point out the item I missed...

Most likely some text files are missing or incompatible with your .exe. I could probably work out exactly what you're missing if you uploaded it somewhere for me to check, but.. if you're willing to be a bit of a guinea pig, you could try just dropping ACU in and it'll probably fix the issue. Make a backup first, then unzip this (https://github.com/etesp/Alpha-Centauri-Ultimate/archive/master.zip) directly into your alpha centauri folder, overwriting all duplicates. It should at least get Alien Crossfire working, and you'll have 150+ extra factions plus a load of other goodies (maps, scenarios, improved datalinks, bugfixes, etc). Do keep a clean copy though, ACU is faaar from finished and upgrading to the full thing from clean would be ideal when we're ready.

If that does not work, something odd's happening. I'll try and help, but try ACU first.

I scrubbed the install and tried again, and the only problem this time is the annoying 'can't find CD' problem. But it now works fine. I'm guessing I missed a step. But your ACU is intriguing. Perhaps closer to the holidays...

ACU should fix that too, since it includes Yitzi's patch (which is based on scient's, which is based on a patch which fixes that). Or you could install http://alphacentauri2.info/index.php?topic=12995.0 (http://alphacentauri2.info/index.php?topic=12995.0) then http://alphacentauri2.info/index.php?topic=13368.0 (http://alphacentauri2.info/index.php?topic=13368.0) for just the Yitzi patch.

That's what I went with. I really don't know what went wrong the first time though...

Most likely one of the text files was not extracted the first time, but was the second.
