Hmm, I'm the leader of an expedition to colonize another planet. I have some space for some extra crew, what kind of crew should I bring? Scientists ;zak;? Engineers ;domai;? Refugees ;lal;? Rich People ;morgan;?

No, that's boring. I think I'm going to bring some artists. Surely art will be critical to the harsh task of settling on an inhospitable world..

Those artists are not the hard-labouring, simple-task executing, crew of the ship. They're the colonists. If that's the kind of colony Élodie wants, that's what she'll get.
Besides, have you never read Dan Simmons' Hyperion? With King Billy's colony of artists on a frontier world?
